I recently purchased a PT-100 and am contemplating adding the CD-100.
I'm curious as to why these two components utilize a different DAC? I doubt I'd be able to hear a difference in sound quality, but I am trying to decide whether to use the analog output from the CD player, or the digital output to the Preamp, allowing it to perform the conversion.
CD-100 = Cirrus Logic CS4398 DAC PT-100 = Analog Devices AD1955 DAC
Any reason I would choose one over the other?

Yes. Listen to both of them and settle on the connection you like best. Or keep both connections.

I have heavily gone forth and back between this to. If you have equal setup of cables and so. My ears told me this. AD sounds softer more analog a little more dynamic. The CS gives a me a touch of spritz. Little more rythmic sounding. Winner AD, CS more fun for example EDM music.
Hope this could help! 🙂 Ciao.

If you already have a cd or DVD player just use the digital output to your pt100

I know the old Sherbourn PT series uses the Cirrus logic chips, and so far they are the best I have heard. I prefer them to any of the other preamps I have tried. I would imagine you could decide which you prefer in a simple plug and unplug experiment
