I have a Gen 1 XPA-5. I will purchase an RMC-1 after it finally comes to market. I have a 9.X.6 speaker layout plus one overhead for VOG should Emotiva reach an agreement with Auro3D. I'm debating whether to get two BASX 5 channel amps vs one XPA-12 for the remaining channels. What would you guys recommend doing? I recognize they likely sound a little different, have different power output, different physical layout, etc. Would one amps sound match the sonic character of the Gen1 XPA-5 better than the other? FYI I have three HTM-12's for LCR and Concentric-8's for all other channels. My HT is in an open loft with 2 rows of seating (3 seats per row). The front row is 9 feet from the LCRs. The side surrounds are 3’ from the side seats. The ceiling is 9' high. The rears are about 10' behind the last row. For subs I have four Fi Car Audio IB3 18 subs up front and 4 Infinity 1262 subs for NF duty in the rear. I'm leaning towards the XPA-12 since one extra amp will fit in my rack better and offer more flexibility going forward regarding number of channels. Please lend me your thoughts.

All amps sound the same , so just worry about the speakers.

cmon i threw out the bait Yet nobody is responding 😉. J/k it'll happen. Back OT... given the A-500 is 2RU and I really only have room for one 4RU amp, dual A-500's vs one XPA-10 is probably the best comparison. I'd probably add an extra stereo blade to for the VOG speaker and greater flexibility.

Hell .......a Gen 1 with a Gen 3 .............. that's sacrilege .............. it'll never work .............. they'll sound totally different .............. OMG different gains, 32 db versus 29 db, that's a huge difference .............. huge mismatch, one has black trims the other silver .............. a linear power supply versus an SMPS, that's like ice and fire (sorry, Game of Thrones reference there)
Seriously either will do just fine sound wise, your speaker differences are much more noticeable than any amplifier differences. I'd go the XPA-12 if it physically suites better.
Cheers Gary

All amps sound the same , so just worry about the speakers. Amps do not have any sound. If you hear music out of them you have broken natures laws and should report it to authorities at once.

All joking aside, its very important that the amps have the same trim thats it. For me im power hungry yet i dont listen loud but its all about the bragging rights. No matter what you do as long as the front 3 have good power you will be just fine with the stereo blades unless you play at extreme levels or you room is large. Just remember size does matter and you need a big rack.

If you level match them (as mentioned the gains are different) you should be fine for virtually all multichannel content.

All amps sound the same , so just worry about the speakers. this is true into a resistor AND when unclipped. All amps vary in the ability to drive a REAL speaker which consists of Reactance (inductance and/or capacitance) along with impedance. The unfortunate case of a very low impedance dip with a huge dose of Reactance, generally measured in 'degrees' will stress some amps beyond their ability to respond correctly. Most HT speakers will not meet these conditions while some of the more.....esoteric.....speaker offerings can stress an amp beyond its ability to cope. Some Brands are more likely to present a difficult load to the amp than others. Thus? 'All amps sound the same', is not quite true in the real world.
