I didn't set it up with the 2 X Airmotive 6's side by side, that's just silly, I placed them one one each side of the screen. Being mono (ie; same signal) the centre channel sound then sounds like it comes from the centre of the screen. In another set up I had one speaker above the screen and one below, same effect, sound from the centre of the screen.
Cheers Gary

For my 5.1 room, the most expensive component was the center channel. As pknaz said, a majority of TV/Movie audio is usually sent to center. I was not at all concerned about timber matching since I sort of think the L/R sounds are often not voices but other sounds so I just bought a center that reproduced voices extremely well. My approach was best tool for the job but I think most people would think I am INSANE for not having timber matched speakers in a 5.1 system. I don't think you're insane, I think people focus too much on "timber matching" the center, if you're a Dirac user, this is largely corrected by Dirac anyway.

Dirac measures volume and distance, it will not timber match your speakers. Im a firm believer that Dirac is a wonderful product you still need a matched system of speakers for 5.1 music and the largest matched center speaker for HT. MY,,,,,,,, For what its worth.

Dirac does WAY more than just measure volume and distance..... Yes, I know. But it doesn’t make up for differences in speaker characteristics. 😁

Correct, I use Direct for non "stereo" content and I use Reference Stereo for two channel. Which version of Dirac did you use? The full - it's fine for movies or multi-channel content, but my room is already pretty well setup, and I'm running open back mids, so it really screwed up my mid-range. I also have my subs integrated with a mini-DSP, so I really didn't need a lot of help in the bass department, and it just made things worse for me. I love the concept, though, and I even spent a good bit of time playing with different house curves that I know I like....still didn't sound as good to me as reference stereo does.

I think Dirac will always provide a better result with multi-Channel sound than you can get without it. I suppose it must relate to the difficulties associated with integrating so many speakers in a cohesive fashion. However, with Stereo music, Dirac can be very effective. Obviously, the better your room the less you need Dirac, but if you have SBIR issues or other problems at specific frequencies that room treatments cannot address Dirac can definitely result in better sound. I do wish Dirac operated at a higher sample rate and I wish my XMC-1 could save more than one custom room curve.
