They both share the same dac. The DC-1 uses dual independent AD1955 while the ERC-3 uses a single AD1955.

You should just buy Randy's DC-1. He's just up the road from you and that's a great price.

I believe the XDA's also use that DAC chip.

The DC-1 gives you more options. The sound from the DC-1 and ERC-3 are great. I favor the DC-1 because it will take care of your current CD or whatever laser transport of your choice in the Stereo realm. Your computer and other 2 channel digital sources get some love from the DC-1, so my vote is on the DC-1. But if you go with the ERC-3, it is great player, and you will be spinning your CDs with joy, and pleasure.

I would vote for the DC-1 but that's because I have it. The important thing is that it's about features. If you have other digital devices you use then they all get upgraded with the sound. For instance I have all my BNC, coax, Optical, and analog inputs in use and it is essentially the media center for my house, family and work.
Also the DC-1 can do files higher than 44.1 Khz like 24/192 while the ERC-3 does one thing - CD's. Plus you get headphone capabilities with the DC-1.
So I guess it's probably more of a features thing.

I agree with what most are saying here. My DC-1 handles my CDs and my Mac mini and sounds awesome. To my ears I prefer this set up to an ECR-1/USP-1 combo that I used to use.

Thanks all. I am on the hunt for a DC-1 now.
