Considering getting a used one, BUT, current owner recently messaged me following:
"Full disclosure, there's a lot of wear on the finish due to the fact that I had wrapped it in heavy duty aluminum foil to provide additional shielding. Unfortunately this unit is prone to hum due to electronic interference--not sure if that's true of all these preamps, but it was true of mine. Once I had wrapped it in foil, the hum disappeared."
Kudos to him for disclosing this, any of you have same/similar noise issue(s) with the XPS-1? Seriously considering getting one, was even contemplating getting a new one thru Emotiva, but second thoughts now. Looking forward to your thoughts/input.

I have sold mine since my purchase of a McIntosh C220, only reason I sold it. The XSP-1 is a very very good phono pre and has never made anything but beautiful music in my house.
The one wrapped in foil should have had a call to Emotiva the first time there appeared to be a problem. it may have been a problem elsewhere in that audio system.

The XSP-1 is an excellent pre-amp but I'd avoid the one from that seller. EDIT: oops I guess I read it wrong the first time as I thought it was an XSP-1 not XPS-1.

Maybe you can meet up with him if you know him and put it in your system to test it.

Wow. " ... wrapped it in heavy duty aluminum foil to provide additional shielding ...". That's crazy. If he wanted a Faraday Cage he should have determine the highest frequency of interference that he wanted to block, used that to compute the wavelength and consequent Faraday Cage Mesh size, and then wrapped it in a grounded mesh cage. That would have allowed for air flow. But yes, far more importantly, you shouldn't ever have to do this with a properly designed/built piece of audio equipment. He should have contacted Emotiva as soon as he noticed the issue. It's probably got a floating ground somewhere. It sounds like a "non-buy" to me, but if the price is right ... And kudos to the seller for disclosing the issue! Casey

I have an XPS-1 and it's a great little phono amp. I have had zero issues with noise/hum.

Also, if it's a Phono Amplifier, then this could just be noise coming in from bad cabling leading to the cartridge and/or the cartridge itself. Phono levels are really low ... Or, it could even be having the Moving Magnet/Coil switch in the wrong position and consequently having the gain turned up way high.

I bought mine new from Emotiva approximately 14 months ago. From day 1 amazed at how very quiet, plus major improvement that was heard from my 34 yr old turntable. Amazed how much improvement I am hearing from my vintage albums. No longer experiencing pops and other noises. Without hesitation, I reccomend adding it to your system. Best of luck, Jeff
