Hello, This is my first post with Emotiva and am considering purchasing some speakers from them but of course I would need to demo these and compare to other brands I have an interest. I have included a poll however I only could list 4 speakers and may do another one based on the feedback and poll data with another group of speakers. I am trying to make a decision on new LCR for HT but my main focus is how musical these speakers. These would be for streaming audio, CD, and vinyl recordings. Bear in mind I will be purchasing a pair of sub-woofer's to compliment these speakers and not looking to eliminate a sub due to the include low frequency performance. I am looking forward to read any comments for the following speakers as per your choices and why? 1. Emotiva T1 2. Emotiva T2 3 Klipsch RP 260F 4. Revel Concerta2 F36 5. Aperion Versus II 6. Golden Ear Triton 7 7. Monitor Audio Bronze 6

I forgot to include the Texton Design Double Impact. Thoughts?

Of the ones on your list, I have heard the Emotiva T1 and T2 and the Golden Ear speakers. I just don't like the Golden Ear and I have heard several models. They seemed out of balance to me across the frequency range. I really really like the T2's. The T1's are similar but with less bass capability. As you note, you plan to have a sub involved so the T1' may suffice. But - if I may ask - what gear will run the T1's for music and how will you integrate the sub with that gear? Also, what sub(s) do you have or plan to get?

Mark Hi Mark, This system will be currently powered by a Arcam AVR 850 7.1.4 though there are only 7 connections on this unit so to get the full height one would need another stereo amp. As per the subs currently considering SVS but if you have another suggestion I would be open for an opinion.

I am not that familiar with that unit, and without reading the manual in detail, I won't be. But...question for you...when you listen to 2 channel with sub, what settings will you use? I ask this because most pre/pro's or AVR's have a "direct" mode (or something like it with another name) which bypasses all processing but ends up with no subs playing. How will you be using the Arcam to have a sub playing with 2 channel? Many 2 channel purists prefer to avoid processing for best/most natural sound. I do, and I have options for how I do. But, those are dependent on my sub's capabilities and how I can wire it up. Mark

Hi hattrick - If you have a bigger room, consider the T2s from Emotiva rather than the T1s. Just saying...

Also consider a pair of Klipsch RP-280s instead of the 260s. Coincidentally, I have a pair of 280s for sale!!

Hattrick, I will echo Boomzilla's point about a bigger room. It would be prudent to pay close attention to speaker dimensions in your quest. The speaker options you listed enjoy a fairly broad price range and quite a difference in size! As a very happy owner of a pair of Tekton Double Impact and a custom Tekton Center, I must warn you. These things are beasts! I am blessed with a spouse and room that are fairly ACCOMMODATING, but damn! They do tend to dominate the decor! I would recommend card board mock ups so that you might fully appreciate the true size and impact speaker dimensions will have on your room. As far as comparing speakers, my personal experience is limited to the Emotiva ERT 8.3's, and a pair of JBL 4312B's. The Tekton's in combination with a PowerSoundAudio S3000i can be driven to dangerous and delirious levels. This set up, coupled with Emotiva electronics is musical, articulate and powerful. Good luck on your journey!

Mark Hi Mark, I will turn off the Dirac room correction for music listening and run stereo or many times 4 channel stereo which is a DSP option with the AVR. Currently my old system consists of Klipsch KSB 3.1 two way bookshelf speakers on stand which I plan on replacing with floor standing speakers which will one of those I am considering within this thread. Currently with the KSB 3.1 I utilize a sub but depending on what speakers I decide to own I will test with and without sub to find the best sonic voicing I am looking for.

Hi hattrick - If you have a bigger room, consider the T2s from Emotiva rather than the T1s. Just saying... That is what I am thinking now as well. I was just looking at price points but the T2 are easily in my budget. I really hope they are the speakers I am looking for being the others I am considering are far more expensive and to me what is most important is the musical reproduction. HT experience comes in second.

They stated to match the output of my amp the RP-260 would be best. Thanks for the response though. So you have the Forte III how do you like them?

Good luck on your journey! Thank you for the response. I am going to visit Tekton and discuss options. I never heard them but I am very interested. As per aesthetics I am interested in fit. I just sent back furniture that looked very cumbersome. As per speaker sizes and cost yes I am a bit all over the place on this and feel I can get great sound for about $1000.00 per speaker or less. The Klipsch RP-260 are as about as large as I would want in my living room. I may consider using book shelf speakers again but more musical than the Klipsch KSB 3.1 which are 8' drivers with a rectangle horn tweeter with a front port.

Currently with the KSB 3.1 I utilize a sub but depending on what speakers I decide to own I will test with and without sub to find the best sonic voicing I am looking for. OK - just to do one more check...what is your source for 2-channel? Do realize that if you are running any analog inputs into the AVR, as soon as you use any DSP option - the analog input will be converted into digital by an ADC within the AVR to do the DSP in the digital domain - and then converted back into analog via a DAC within the AVR. Said another way - if you have a great analog source (for example, a TT or a great CD player w/amazing DAC's) - that great analog source may ended up degraded by all that extra ADC/DSP/DAC processing. Many years ago, I ended up going to better analog inputs for my stereo to avoid what I note. And, my 2-channel sound has never been clearer. In my case, I am also lucky enough that my sub allows RCA and XLR inputs AND allows different options for how each is used. As a result - I can also run direct mode in my pre/pro (no processing) yet have a sub playing (which is quite atypical and most will say it cannot be done). Mark

Mark, Good points as per turning off the Dirac Room Correction for audio playing I totally agree! I am actually turning it off for everything being I like the manual configuration I have done using measurements and a db meter to set out put for the speakers. Sounds much more natural with very little compression. Currently no analog media as of yet but forth coming and I will take your advice as per input analog all the way through the device as much as possible.

ELAC UniFi UF5. From my audition they beat Golden Ear 7's.

One thing to keep in mind...if you run a digital source (such as a CD Player) - but you are using RCA or XLR outputs from that source, it's viewed as an analog input to the receiving device. In other words, don't think of just turntables, cassette decks, and reel-to-reel players as analog inputs. As soon as a digital device does the digital/analog conversion and outputs over RCA or XLR, the source is now analog. Mark

I may be biased as I own three of them for LCR but the Chane A5.4 is a great value as well, currently they are sold out as John`s first run sold out before they arrived at his warehouse. www.chanemusiccinema.com/a-series-speakers/A5.4Chad

If you or anyone you know is adept at wood working, you might also consider DIY speakers. Even if you're not adept at wood working, but you're willing to give it a try, you might still consider DIY. Check my signature for an example of my current DIY speakers.

Check my signature for an example of my current DIY speakers Funny you mentioned DIY. I am strongly considering doing DIY and have an account now with Parts Express. They have some outstanding kits out there with competitive components and I have been checking out some builds on YouTube as well reading the PE build forums. Many feel that one can build as good if not a better sounding speaker than a manufactured speaker for far less investment. I own all the tools needed to build speakers and am considering building a clone version of the Ultra. The enclosure and the speaker choices will be easy to configure it is getting the cross over design right in my opinion. One video I watched from Denmark the guy actual created a space at the bottom of his tower (false bottom) which he can access the cross over very easily to make upgrades or changes which I thought was very cool. Has anyone else dabbled in DIY systems?
