I have not heard the pre box, but the price is nicer than the Mytek Liberty or the TEAC NT-505 (not sure if released yet in the US) which are about one grand. The TEAC is also reportedly Roon Ready and a network player. It has Dual monaural circuit design with a high-end AKM VERITA AK4497 DAC on each channel. You are familiar with the Liberty i believe. I’m just in the looking phase, as I will wait for Roon to do the first Mqa unfold (Tidal) and send to my Oppo usb dac, then listen, etc. (currently I enjoy Roon and it’s ease over Mqa capability).

I believe Music Direct has these for sale, was just looking at it yesterday. Looks like a great deal if its everything its cracked up to be, though at least one person stated it is nowhere near a "giant killer".

My link was to Music Direct, never hurts to repost though. 😁 At $400. I wouldn’t think it would be a giant killer, but it could be a great add on to many folks looking for a DAC/Preamp in a very reasonable setup. Hope it’s underpriced!

Is there a benefit of a DAC processing the MQA instead of the PC software ??

Some DACs are hardware decoders which means they don’t require a decoded stream but they do a complete unfolding of MQA whereas the software unfolding is only one unfolding of the data stream.

Picked up this unit the other day and so far so good. Connected it to a USP-1. Using Roon and Tidal on Macbook Pro connected to USB of this DAC. MQA decode (on the DAC)working as advertised. DAC is recognized by ROON as an endpoint. Also connected a CD player to the Pro-Ject optical input.

Nick...you should have grabbed my Grace m920 pre-amp dac/headphone amp. YES, more money but a great value with remote. Quality, made in U.S.A. Designed by technicians in the recording studios.

Thanks bud, that was four months ago and I was looking for an MQA dac. The Grace has gotten rave reviews from everywhere I know. You’ve seemed to have landed on your feet with its replacement! LOL I know your enjoying the music! You may have heard I ended up with a Mytek Brooklyn and am amazed every time I turn it on. It too was made and designed for the recording studio.

No mention of the RME ADI-2 DAC... I'm on the hunt for a new DAC too. I've been eye balling all the ones mentioned here but the RME seemed the most appealing to me. Waiting for Emo to release the new DAC before I decide. I have ZERO interest in MQA, though.

The Project S2 Digital looks a lot like the Oppo Dac. Same Sabre dac and same look on the front except the Oppo has a USB on the front. Since the Oppo does not have MQA, I wish I had the Project instead. At $399, it's a no brainer!
