Yes indeed, my right subwoofer has all of a sudden started to give off a 60Hz(?) hum when first turned on lately. Never did it before, but now, there it is! Oddly, the hum only lasts the first 4 to 6 minutes after its received a signal (its always technically "on" I suppose!), and then after that the hum goes away and it operates/sounds normally from that point onward... I suppose if it could hum along with the ads on TV, or with the music playing then that might be something, but not like this! Ideas anyone?

That's because it's getting old... And forgets words in the lyrics!

Seriously though... You said "right" sub... So you have a left one too. Try switching them to see if the hum follows the sub. That'd help rule out the sub. Or not.

I like Hempster's idea about the words, no wait. About the swapping of the subs to follow the problem if applicable. The only thing I don't like is it goes away after 4 to 6 minutes. It almost suggest something thermal is going on like a bad solder joint on something. From where? That takes more troubleshooting. No guarantee that it is a bad solder joint, but that the hum goes away after 4 to 6 minutes gives me pause.

Time for a rebuild. Bill

I’d try removing all inputs first to see if there’s any interaction with something up stream.

Yes, the verdict is now in, my right ES250P is unrepairable the shop tells me (at a reasonable price anyway!). Tried everything, but nothing gets rid of the hum...and its getting worse...
Sooooo, I'm in the market for a new 12" subwoofer, or maybe (probably?) two? Does anyone here have first-hand positive experience with the Airmotiv 12 that they'd care to relate? Thanks!

I’ve posted before on it, but I love mine. It’s broken in now and seems to be getting even better with movies. It blends extremely well with my mains on music. I have absolutely no complaints about it.

Can't go wrong with SVS. Or HSU.

Thanks to all for your suggestions! I'd also consider the Airmotiv 15, but my better-half "may" object to the size increase! So now I have one still good ES250P, and one that hums constantly...what to do with them after I get the new ones?

JBL will probably sell you a replacement amplifier that you could swap into the hummer if you wish. If you do decide to replace them, as far as 'what to do" with the good one I would consider keeping it in the system. Move it to another part of the room and keep it as part of the setup. You really can never have too many subwoofers (and not for loudness, for even room response.)

If the test ideas above don't work, sounds like the filter caps after the bridge rectifier is leaking. Re-cap the sub Power Supply if you wish to save some $$$. Mine is doing the same, but haven't had time to make a list of all caps to rebuild it yet. I just play music with lots of 60hz, you'll never notice it.

Try a ground loop isolator before you spend a bunch of money. You might be surprised.

I'd replace the amp.
HSU are good subs. I have a refurb STF 2 in the bedroom HT. After 9 years the amp went bad $130 for anew one shipped. A lot cheaper than a new sub.

I haven't heard the Airmotivs, but the BASX subs kicked booty!
