Hi everyone I'm new to the lounge I am in search for some advise on the mentioned power amps. My current set up consists of BassX A-7 onkyo processor and MK 150mk2 surround setup,I have had the BassX for over a year now and have been pleasantly happy with it but like many we always strive for better, After trying different amplifiers I have found much better alt for music playback so decided to try the best that Emotiva offered in my setup.
I was fortunate to be able to demo the XPA 7 from my installer into my own setup, I have connected the emo using Rca ran the room correction and continued to listen to many genres of music over a course of seven days to keep it simple I experienced improved sound stage imaging clarity and speed and of course there was more headroom not as much as I had hoped for but it was sufficient just a little too brittle for my liking so all things seemed very much improved but their is a but in here through more listening I was left wanting more, what more could this fool be needing you are probably thinking,Well I will say this when you listen to music you want to be moved so where has the soul of the music gone it's a little analytical on certain tracks, The more I listend it became obvious it was the vocals they played flat on my setup, Over time this become more apparent while listening to dialogue on Tv & Bluray. And yes I did chop and change with my BassX and found the only thing my amp did better was vocals and dialogue one thing I have to state is that instrumental music was very satisfying on XPA, So I had a dilemma what was I going to do I didn't want to spend even more cash on a different brand. I decided to visit a friend who owns an XPA 4 & XPA- DR3 connected to Mk 300s from marantz processor using balanced conections, The DR3 ran his fronts so hopefully a marked improvement, after a long listen I noticed the DR3 had a warmer sound but a direct comparison is very difficult since he has a different system and room acoustics differ although it still held a similar sound signature with flat vocals and unfortunately I left disappointed.
Well I have decided to leave it be and be patient. I do know the easiest fix would to purchase a Dirac processor since I had one briefly it managed to lift my frequencys but could not get on with it for movies lost all my low frequencies and surround effects and what a faf dirac is but that's for another day.
Conclusion the X series are remarkable home cinema amps that's were they hold there Own but not top notch with music at least on my system so am left wanting, Needing more all round amp any help would be appreciated.
