Wow what a shame. I remember when they were a fierce competitor in the market with a good reputation.

….…..And they had such a good record track. I mean, track record. Bill

Wow! Someone should buy the tooling from them to bring-back the V15 Series (so long as they do it under a different moniker, to avoid sullying Shure's reputation...)
I guess that with Vinyl being "esoteric" at best by modern standards - they can no longer do it in a cost-effective manner worthy of their reputation. I can see some wisdom in getting out of the pool at the right time vs. finding ways to "cheapen" their products - THAT would do them disservice.
OTOH - I wonder if the value of mine will go up to where I should buy a different Cart and put mine "on ice" for a few years and see if the prices spike enough to offset my future entry into the "Top-Secret Monoblock Society" ;-P

(LOL) My first cartridge, then Empire 999ve, Stanton 681EEE (shibata) (in my AR turntable) on a shelf...…...no more.....all my tunes go thru a blu ray player one way or another. Bill

It is crazy yes. But if you do not adapt, you could be like Gibson Brands who had just filed Chapter 11. You have to go with the changes, or get left behind. Shure's Professional presence is well earned in quality and reputation. An SM58 makes me remember why I love the brand. Takes a beating and keeps on performing. Yeah had the M carts and a V15 too. Good days absolutely. I will never forget.
But this company is wise keeping their effort where their core clients are. Go to almost any performance and it is likely Shure is in the mix somewhere. I expected this to come.

With respect to the Gibson Ch 11 filing, could it be that, with the current trend toward instant gratification, people are no longer interested in taking the time and effort it takes to learn a musical instrument?

From Rolling Stone magazine : "...shedding some of its side businesses and concentrating on its original mission of selling musical instruments."

I think Gibson going back to their roots is wise, just as Shure is making the most out of their professional audio business. Did Gibson Brands really need Teac, Onkyo etc.? I think Guitars always. So yeah focusing on your core products and values is always a great thing.

Yeah - with the GLOBAL economy, many businesses have to "stick with what you do BEST, or DIE"
In Shure's case - it would be Microphones and in-ear monitors, etc. (although the technologies used within them are very similar to building phono carts - that has gotten to the point where it's just "too small of a slice" of their "pie")
Bummer - I guess that I'll be FORCED to drink the "MC Kool-Aid" when the time comes to replace my beloved V15 (or find a stash of replacement stylii and store them in a way where they will not deteriorate faster than my hearing...)
