Just fyi, actual jazz musicians don't think that much of Frank Zappa or John McLaughlin. Miles Davis, yes, he a;most singlehandedly changed the course of jazz. Let's examine your theory of " actual jazz musicians " not thinking much of Frank Zappa or John McLaughlin , we have George Duke, the greatest living piano master ,Chick Corea ,Yan Hammer , Rick Laird ,Jean Luc-Ponty who is the grand Master violinist,Jerry Goodman ,Al Demiola,Warren Cucurillo,Narada Michael Walden ,Ralph Armstrong ,Jack Bruce,Dr John,Pierre Boulez ,Michael Brecker,Eric Clapton,Vinnie Coluita who's prolly the best jazz drummer alive ,Don Ellis the master Trumpet player ,Lowell George ,Carol Kaye ,Paco Delucia ,Salvador Marquez ,Shuggie Otis,Linda Rondstat ,Peter Rundel ,Sting ,Chester Thompson ,Tina Turner ,Johnny Guitar Watson and that's off the top of my head with 90% having played & recorded with Zappa ,incliding they entire London symphony orchestra who with all their talent could only play Zappas Modern orchestral at a rate of 60% correctly because of the musics complexity ,when the LSO stands in awe & gives a Maestro a 20 minute ovation I think more of that than what the doped up heroin addict who were " true jazz " musicians . Show me miles Davis conducting an orchestra & getting a half hour standing ovation from the crowd & orchestral musicians & you might begin to convince me Miles Davis was a better musician or composer than Frank Zappa ,I never saw Miles treated with this kinda respect, let's see the real jazz Zappa haters pull this off . youtu.be/AyitnY3Rt9c that's a respected icon .

Innovative composer, yes....jazz musician in the usual sense questionable. I don't think I'd include Linda Ronstadt, Shuggie Otis, Eric Clapton, and others from this list in what I'd consider jazz musicians.......

Zappa put out 9 very solid fusion jazz albums that explore the absolute limits of musicianship much like the Mahavishnu Orchestra ,this piece is a good example of the jazz you'll hear from Frank Zappa ,from the album The Grand Wazoo the track is Eat That Question ,this is a live version played by Frank's son Dweezil band Zappa plays Zappa,my ear thinks it's some of the finest fusion jazz ever written or played & on Par with Miles Davis . youtu.be/cxoNPg6cv04To each his own of course. The first few notes on that link and I am instantly reminded how much I dislike and frankly get irritated by pretty much everything Zappa ever did. Dissonance, and avant-garde always poorly and childishly assembled. The list of jazz fusion artists that played on a level far surpassing both Zappas is endless.....many of them mentioned here on previous posts. Bill

Lots of varying opinions here. All I can say is i’m listening to John Coltrane “Blue Train” in 2.0 DTS-HD MA 24bit/192Khz Blu-ray and it’s freakin fantastic sounding!

Blue Train is really good. And I love Giant Steps. I had a great experience listening to it yesterday.. my head and years were synched up really well and my enjoyment level was off the chart

Not really jazz but I really love listening to Keiko Matsui’s The Ring. You need a system that can get down below 30Hz with authority.
