I have a problem with my pre. The HT Bypass for the fronts has stopped working. No sound coming thru. I have sent Emotiva mail but only reply was a question about if I had bought it directly from them??? Not much of a help in that responce. Honestly hoping for more I live in Iceland so it is a strech to ship it over for repair. Has anyone had similar problem on this device? Any help welcomed... Krissi.

Questions: 1) I assume your have the XSP-1 as part of a combined 2-channel/multi-channel system and that if you are not in HT Bypass that the FR/FL are indeed working...correct? 2) What kind of amps do you have? Do they have a bal/unbal switch like making of Emotiva's have had? Is the switch in the proper location?

I had the same problem at one time and come to find out I had accidentally hit the proc loop button on the remote.

Hi Mark. 1) Correct. 2) I have XPA-1´s for my fronts. They were properly connected.
It was working fine for a couple of years and without changing anything it stopped working.
I am using the Proc Loop for my Mini DSP. It bypasses that when swithing to the HT Bypass function. Same here, been like this for a couple of years without a hitch.
Thanks for your inputs. Hoping for some reply from Emotiva to suggest what to replace and ship me some parts.
Krissi.

I usually follow standard fault finding techniques to isolate exactly which piece is causing the problem, at the moment you are assuming it's the XSP-1 without actually confirming it. So that's what you need to work through, eliminating other possibilities.
As with all fault finding, the first question to ask, have you changed anything in the system recently? Interconnects, speaker cables, amplifiers, anything? If so then change it back and test it in its original configuration.
You mention that the fronts aren't working in HT Bypass but what about the sub, does it still work in HT Bypass?
If the FL, FR and sub work as normal for stereo 2.1 channel music via the XSP-1 (with sources other than the AVR/processor) then that confirms that the XSP-1 is functioning. But it doesn't confirm that the input to the XSP-1 from the AVR/processor is working. So that's the next test, connect the AVR/processor directly to the power amplifiers for the FL/FR and sub, with no XSP-1 in the system. If it works that will confirm that the output from the AVR/processor is working.
That then leaves the cables that connect the AVR/processor to the XSP-1 to test. If you have some spare interconnects then I'd suggesting swapping them and seeing if that works. If your don't then try swapping them as input interconnects to the XSP-1 from another source, then test them that way.
I'd also suggest adding a list of your gear to your sign on, that way we know what else you have that may need checking.
Cheers Gary

If you truly have changed nothing at all and Emotiva has not responded to your email with a sufficient answer/help - while I know you are in Iceland and that's a greater time-zone challenge than for me in Ohio = I suggest you call them to talk through troubleshooting. It may be something very simple, but frankly - email troubleshooting is really tough. Talking helps. That said, I'd build on Gary's comments by saying to try the simplest possible inputs to the XSP-1 for 2-channel and see if it works. For example, I'd take the mini-DSP out of the system to isolate the issue to the XSP-1. To do so, I'd run a 2-channel source directly into the XSP-1 (try input 1 and/or input 2), and have the main outs go to your amp. If you hook that up, and it works - you know the XSP-1 basic functionality is there and inputs can go to outputs. Next, I'd move the 2-channel inputs from input 1 or 2 to the HT Bypass. If that still works, you know that the XSP-1 inputs will play to the outputs. After that, I'd try to bring the mini-dsp back in and see if things go bad again. If so, the problem is not the XSP-1...if somewhere else. Mark
