So, I've seen a few threads about this - but this was years ago and I'm unsure if there was a firmware update or anything else may have changed in the interim. So, apologies for possibly repeating : I bought an Elac 2030 subwoofer yesterday (another on it's way) and will be running dual subwoofer setup with my Kef LS50. My room has a terrible null RIGHT WHERE I SIT so, although they help, I'm not getting my optimum (not the subject of this though . My question is when watching a movie (Smart TV / Netflix / ARC) on DIRECT, things are decent - subwoofer works as best it can and I'm happy. But when I changes sources to music, it doesn't play. I know the reason for this is that I use DIRECT too (disabling subwoofer?). A way to get passed this, is selecting STEREO - but it sounds horrible. Question : Is there a way getting DIRECT with the subwoofer? Perhaps copy the settings from DIRECT to STEREO? Is DIRECT the same as me selecting FLAT? Hope this all makes sense

"Direct" means different things depending on whether the input is digital or analogue. The UMC-200 carries out bass management in the digital domain, it doesn't have any analogue bass management. So when you are playing from a digital source and select "Direct" it will carry out the bass management on the signal as it arrives, then convert it to analogue for pre amplification. When you are playing from an analogue source and select "Direct" it doesn't/can't do bass management. If you want the UMC-200 to carry out bass management on an analogue source than it has to be converted to digital (using the ADC), bass managed, then converted back to analogue (using the DAC) for pre amplification.
So when playing an analogue source there are therefore 2 conversions processes, analogue to digital to analogue, which does affect the audio quality a little bit but I wouldn't call the sound "horrible".
On the remote the "Stereo" or "Direct" Mode Buttons go straight to those modes. Or you can use the Mode + and Mode - buttons to step through all the modes that are valid for the signal coming in on your current input. I'd suggest stepping through those to find a suitable selection. The modes you can choose from depend on the signal being received at the input, so they are not all visible all of the time.
Cheers Gary

Sorry - let me clarify horrible I think it has EMO Q Settings already added on the STEREO ... so those EMO Q settings are boosting (for example) certain frequencies. If I put all of those at 0 again, will it sound like DIRECT?

Sorry - let me clarify horrible I think it has EMO Q Settings already added on the STEREO ... so those EMO Q settings are boosting (for example) certain frequencies. If I put all of those at 0 again, will it sound like DIRECT? EmoQ equalisation only has an effect in Direct for a digital source (yes) but for an analogue source (no) EmoQ has no effect. EmoQ equalisation in Stereo mode works for both digital and analogue sources. It can do that because the analogue input is converted to digital (using the ADC), then EmoQ (and bass management) then converted back to analogue (using the DAC). Cheers Gary

Do you have any options to move the subwoofers or your listening position? Even the slightest movement can change the results and have an impact.
