I'm thinking about going to Magnepan 1.7i speakers and would like to hear from anyone who is driving Magnepans with a XPA-2 Gen 2, or Gen 1 for that matter. I know the amp can drive them but I'd like to get thoughts on the match up sound wise.

I have powered Magnepans with the long gone UPA-1s and it was just fine. I think placement is going to be more critical.

I’ve driven my Maggies with an XPA-7 and was impressed, I think the XPA-2 should do well.

I have that exact setup - it's fantastic. The XPA-2 has more than enough power... The hardest part is getting the Maggies placed in the room correctly.

I have a complete Maggie setup. MMGC and 1,7's driven with a XPA-3 gen 1, my surrounds are MMG's driven by a UPA-200 I am very happy with the set up for 5.1 and 2 channel. I added a REL sub in the mix and it blends nice with the 1.7's

I drive my 1.7s to moderate levels (75 - 85 dB) with my XPA-2, gen1 and couldn't be happier😂😀😁. I don't even have the sub connected at the moment, due to room construction/updating, and they still dig pretty dang deep. Played Roxy Music last night and the bass, on "Love is the Drug" for instance, was not only adequate but quite forceful. I believe you too will be happy with the combination. 😉

I have 1.7's (not the "i" model) and when I bought them - I had a Gen 1 XPA-2 driving the Maggies. The XPA-2 had plenty of power to push them and they had the amazing Maggie soundstage. I really like it. But I was in an era of trying to push my system even further to what I wanted, and I found the XPA-2 had a very tiny bit of harshness in the upper end. So, I moved to my nCore amps and found an improvement in clarity. I later moved to my LH Labs Geek Pulse X Infinity DAC and found a bigger improvement. I'd love to hear the XPA-2 now with the Geek DAC.
In any case, I'd say the XPA-2 is a very good match for the Maggies. Is it "the best"? Not sure. But, it will be quite good, and the Maggie soundstage is something to behold, IMHO.

I had the xpa-1 and xpa-2 driving 1.6 and 1,7's and I actually preferred the xpa-2.
But none of that was a match for my current VTA M125 tube amps (140wpc) driving my Maggie 3.6/R speakers.
