I haven’t heard either one, but would think they sound pretty similar. What could make a difference is using the DR-1 with short speaker cables, a potential advantage with any monoblock, lack of crosstalk is also a monoblock advantage.

The amps have finally come to a norwegian dealer can anyone tell the diference in sound between them?..... I have a DR-2 and I have been very happy with it. I think one DR-2 is basically 95% of two DR-1. The only advantage would be on the DR-1 you could run shorter speaker cables and have a very small increase in power. I am not sure about cross talk since these are mono blades and my understanding is that crosstalk would be eliminated with the design, but I am not an expert on that. One advantage of the DR-2 is that space wise you get both channels in one box so it takes up half of the space in your cabinet if that is an issue.

Sound wise they are identical and in practical use I would not think you could ever hear a difference between two DR-1s and a single DR-2.

Not sure if your dealer can get them, or if you can buy directly from Emotiva...but the XPA-1 mono blocks are on final clearance right now. That would be where I would be spending my money if it were in the same ballpark.

I’m betting none of the final batch of XPA-1’s will make it to Europe, and (due to weight) would be expensive if they did.

If they sound different it is when pressed to and beyond normal limits. Also, they may differ slighly in the ability to drive the worst speaker loads. Not necessarily low impedance or low sensitivity, but the Reactance of the load. Like how much the speaker appears to be either a capacitor or inductor to the partnering amp. And that even varies by frequency with parts of the spectrum even looking like a simple resistor.
In short? You stand little chance of identifying one amp over another under normal conditions.

Actually they also have xpa1 gen2.... 100$ less for the xpa1. But mack71 I think it was, has compared both xpa1 and xpr1 to dr1 and found dr1 superior. Dan also said Dr series is a game changer.... So I am going with Dr series, just have to decide dr1's or dr2! I also just bought two subs for 3000$..... Wife is not going to be happy lol!

Better, perhaps, to the reviewer in HIS or HER system. Doesn't meant much to me, except after audition with stuff I listen to in my system. And based on knowing stuff about the reviewer which I do NOT know. All 'reviews' are not created equal. Though I'd hope that any honest reviewer will look for the value in any product reviewed. As for Dan saying 'Game Changer'? Well, you can take that any of several different ways. The cynic in me wants to say that it IS a game changer, but not necessarily better sounding. A change in game might include that it is easier to manufacture. Or easier to ship (we know that to be true based on weigh alone) Or perhaps a higher profit margin, helping ensure the EMO goes on into the future. Magnepan, for example, only infrequently 'updates' to new models. They just went thru such a cycle than against all precedent, issued an 'i' (improved) version of the 1.7, and 3.7 models. But Wendell, the point guy for Magnepan points out that such changes are made ONLY after listening reviews and reviewers (an internal process) AGREE that the 'new' improves on the 'old'.

Each review is subjective and based on individual impressions and comparisons to your own system or what is worse is written 'on order' I am not a fan of Emo, but I do not hide that I liked the products of this company, especially amplifiers, for a good price / quality ratio. Recently, however, I sold Xpr1 and thought that Emotiva would not create a better amplifier. However, I gave the opportunity to the new Dr1 model and decided to order it. I did not think they could surprise me. I will repeat what I wrote in another post; for me, compared in particular to the Xpr1 I Xpa 1 gen1 and gen2 model, the new Dr1 are the most revealing and musical amplifiers. I have no intention of convincing anyone. You have to listen to yourself - I also do not believe in most reviews and opinions of strangers. Maybe I do not have golden ears and I can not write fairy-tale, but I will say it briefly; Dr1 is the best for me in my audio history, Amen Actually they also have xpa1 gen2.... 100$ less for the xpa1. The biggest advantage of the DR-1 is that buying a pair of them makes you eligible for membership in the Secret Monoblock Society. I'd tell you about all those benefits, but...hey, it's secret.
Mark (PS - I suspect sonically they will be very, very similar. But, I'd go for a pair of DR-1's for the cool factor of monoblocks alone.)

I auditioned the DR-2 when it came out, ..to my ears was not any different then the xpa-2 Gen -3 that I sold to a well known member in this lounge. I am going to try the pair of the xpa-1 Gen 2 when they make their way to me in the great state of Texas. I am using an NAD-M-12 as pre amp and DAC, and my La Scala II's. Doubt they will be much different, but I liked the cool "monoblocks" factor idea. Now I am using the Cary Audio CAD 120S MKII, amp in this setup, which is doing a superb job.

Do I understand right? You are going to run a 105db sensitive speaker with a 600 watt mono amp?

the xpa-1's mono blocks will run the RF-7 III's.

Seems strange to me that many people don't get the plus side with extra power to the speakers.... Moore is always better! Not only with loud sound, but also with music quiet back ground sound.... At least what I think my xpr-5 gives 5 times 400w, but I still want mono's for my fronts. Because I think it will benefit bot my 2 channel stereo and 5 channel surround I never got around for the xpr1.... And the xpa1 gen2 has the binding posts too wide for my taste! I am very happy with my xpr5 and going to keep it till it breaks But I think some dr1's are not far away

Try this on for size: 100db sensitive speakers may be 'rated' to play to 121db. That's 21/3=7 'doublings' of power. So 1 watt, doubled 7x is 128 watts. With the Big EMO mono, you are exceeding that by an additional 6db, or a little more. Making it slightly worse, is that when you have a pair of speakers in a real room, you have both the output of 2 speaker AND the 'room gain', which means you need somewhat less power to reach the levels necessary to damage your hearing.
Speaker efficiency is often conflated with sensitivity, and they ARE related. But when expressed as efficiency, your 100db sensitive speaker are maybe about 5% efficient. The remainder is HEAT. And heat is the Enemy of both electronics and speakers. As you play a speaker very loudly for longer time periods, the electrical characteristics change for the worse.
I 'get' headroom, but making that a dominant system goal? You might be walking past many amps with would both sound better and be of more appropriate power.

Many subscribe to THIS philosophy: www.firstwatt.compeople Tend to overestimate how much power they actually use, let alone need.

Many subscribe to THIS philosophy: www.firstwatt.compeople Tend to overestimate how much power they actually use, let alone need. Many get sick of reading that the only reason one should pursue a high-powered amp is if one wants to listen at 100+ sustained dB, based on +3 dB equals a doubling of amplifier requirements. We get it.
