Just installed the Basx Sat speakers. They run off a A-100 amp. I noticed(kind of expected). The loss in bass from my Boston Acoustics HD5.
Do I look to box up and return for different speakers or save and add a Basx 8 inch sub woofer.
From the looks of it stepping up to the B1 or adding the sub would cost the same. Will the sub get me more variability?

I have run a subwoofer for 2.1 stereo for decades, makes a huge difference. That's despite much bagging from hifi friends back I'm the day, "just buy better stereo speakers". The truth is I could never afford to pay the price for true full range speakers, true 20 to 20,000 with perfectly flat response was/is not inexpensive. Plus I like bass down to 10 hz, and even now we are talking $huge to get that in a stereo pair. In comparison adding a subwoofer does it easily at very affordable prices.
My 20 cents, if the budget will stretch a BasX 10" would be a better choice, big step up for an extra $100.
Cheers Gary

One issue if I remember correctly is the RCA outs on the A-100 are line level as in they don't follow the volume control of the A-100. Would something like the T1 towers fit your budget at all ?

Chad Damn, You are correct about the line level totally forgot. And the t1 would be out of my price range. I will probably hang tight and save. Was not awful by any means just noticeable.

What about the TA-100 instead of the A-100, you could then add a sub but I really can't see those Sat speakers being great mains. Plus the TA-100 has a built in phone pre, would have been cheaper than the A-100 and XPS-1.

Run these while I save for better. Am I asking for more of the same with the LCR? This is my first jump into something decent.

Nice deal here for some T2 towers but if you need to save I would say the T1 towers would be hard to beat at the price they sell for. emotivalounge.proboards.com/thread/52786/pair-emotiva-2-mint

I'm just curious as to why you 'expected' a loss of bass from the main speakers?
It is possible the new surrounds are wired backwards? Try swapping PLUS and MINUS on the new surrounds and listen if the bass 'returns'.
Do 'em both at the same time, than make sure they are BOTH wired the same.

A lot of missing information in the OP's question. How big is your room, where do you have them placed, where is your seating position. If you walk around the room and move your head up and down (by a few feet) do you notice locations in the room that have the bass you're looking for?
In general, I'm a big fan of multiple subwoofers, as the best place for bass to originate in a room is (generally speaking) not the same location as mid-range and high-range frequencies. For instance, where my mains are located, is one of the worst places in my room to locate a sub-woofer, so a full spectrum tower that plays 20hz-20khz would be very ineffective in sub 150hz frequencies at my listening position.

IMO, the solution is not to start adding stuff, but to figure out why the main speakers lost bass. The only thing I can think of is that the main and new speakers are OUT OF PHASE. And to the OP? SETUP is key. My brother and I were discussing speaker placement once. I told him to move his speakers TO THE FLOOR for test. He was astonished that the bass increased VS up on stands / tables. And, David96, so much information is missing that telling you to 'add a sub' or whatever is guessing. MY Guess is to start with the cheapest out, which is SETUP and PHASE of main V additional speakers. For setup help / reading? As a general rule, 'The Worlds Greatest Stereo' sounds like crap in a bad room. A just-OK stereo in a great room sounds better. www.cardas.com/room_setup_main.php

Note the BasX SAT's have smaller woofers and higher -3 dB point than the HD5's...
With either you are going to need a subwoofer for bass.
