I wanted to ask if there is a way to select reference stereo with the XMC remote control? I know how to select it directly from the XMC by pressing enter and then audio and the manual doesn’t specify. Please advise?

Not that I know of. I know it's available on the PC app and perhaps the official Emotiva iOS/'Droid app

Yes I do it. I scroll up or down with the mode buttons.

For certain inputs I set up the XMC-1 to automatically go into Reference Stereo Mode, for instance my USB setting, or Balanced inputs and even RCA #1 (phono pre-amp) will automatically go into Reference Stereo Mode. While at it I also have to reselect speaker preset #2 in this case just right and left two channel speakers. Doesn't take much effort as there is a button on the remote for this attribute.

Thanks for the help guys. I tried selecting the up arrow on the mode button on the remote an reference stereo is not one of the options. Then I went to the menu to see if I can program the mode for reference stereo and the only way to configure it is by changing the surround mode to reference stereo vice auto. I will just change this setting back when watching movies because auto is my preferred setting for watching movies. If only the remote had an audio button I would be set. Or I can just continue to get up and press the required buttons on the XMC which is not a problem and what I have been doing for years. My setup has the ERC-3 connected to the XMC vía balanced connections and wanted to select reference stereo with the remote.

Elmex, as I recall you HAVE to initiate the Reference Stereo Mode first which was mentioned earlier in the thread. Two button simultaneously, sorry don't recall the ones but it should be in the manual. After that Reference should be available both in the up and down mode buttons as well as available to you within the menu system to save it linked to what ever input you want, in this case Balanced inputs. Why Emotiva chose to do it this way is beyond me but its what it is. As for auto mode I never use it because it never chooses the correct mode ever so as far as I'm concerned its worthless. For instance it will always chose one of the multi channel music modes when it should be using movie modes or what ever.
As a final note, while I love Emotiva products and their performance, their sense of logic for remotes and programming IMHO are awful, has to be one of the worst in the industry. If you think this is bad try programming the tuner in a TA-100. One has to be quite deft, ambidextrous and swift while reading instructions simultaneously and thats assuming you can even understand them. I gave up.

Routlow. When I watch movies, I select auto and surround and the XMC always chooses the correct audio ie. DTS-HD MA 7.1 as I’m watching the movie Death Cure right now. Is there a better option out there for watching movies? Just curious to see how others configure their XMC’s for movie watching.

Hi, I use a Logitec Harmony elite universal remote. You can chose every sound mode directly with it !
