I tend to over do it. So when the opportunity to upgrade my outdoor pool sound system i decided to do it with a new Emotiva amplifier. The one that caught my eye would be an XPA-gen 3 "build your own" amp with 4 single channel high powered modules. Each module will drive a single definitive technologies AW6500 outdoor speaker. The system will be pre-amped using a Marantz SR7007. Currently, the Marantz powers the 4 speakers assisted by a Niles swa 500 that powers 2 Niles GSS10 subterranean subwoofers. I am happy with the speaker selection, but want to deliver a little extra umph to the DE speakers.
Should i leave everything alone (with the Marantz driving) and accecpt the fact that i can never recieve perfect sound outside and quit trying. Or would upgrading as mentioned with an emotiva upgrade above get me a little closer to great sound outdoors. I am a little concerned that the emotiva amp i selected may be too much for the aw6500 speakers (200 watts). If overkill, what would a better amp selection or configuration be? I have blown a fuse on the niles swa 500 amp and it has become unreliable. What configuration of emotiva amp help drive the subs, too. I pull from either Spotify or Pandora exclusively when listening out there.

What exactly are you trying to achieve with the system that it is not doing right now?

What exactly are you trying to achieve with the system that it is not doing right now? Perfect question. And maybe the only one that matters. Outdoor spaces are really not for critical listening, IMO. I could make-do in MY back yard, which has a large slope which will act to reflect sound, but many back yards with NO such reflection are just awful except for background music, at which point you simply don't need huge amounts of power or 'extension'.

Why are there 2 identical threads posted by the same OP with just slightly different titles? Can Mods combine?

Well its either you or me, because I read the same basic thing. He has great Def Tech outdoor speakers and is wondering if getting a real amp instead of a receiver to power them will make a difference. Keep in mind, I heard nothing but LAUREL the the other day, while my wife heard nothing but Yawwny. 🤣
