Stopped-by one of my local dealers to "kick some tires".
They were selling some gently-used Demo CDs
Among the handful that I snagged was "POMP & PIPES - Powerful Music for organ, winds, brass & percussion" by a label called Reference Recordings
It was recorded at the Meyerson Symphony Center, in Dallas, TX July 26-27, 1993
Apparently, it was one of the "Grand Opening" sessions with their then-new Herman W. and Amelia H. Lay Family Concert Organ (a Fisk Opus 100) -
Played brilliantly by Mr. Paul Riedo
Played in concert with the Dallas Wind Symphony, directed by Mr. Frederick Fennell
In short - I'm officially GREEN WITH ENVY of those who get to experience this wonderful creation live, on any sort of regular basis.
It is now officially noted "on my list" - for when and if I get to visit Dallas
Among others, on this particular recording (HDCD, which my current player only reads as a regular CD) is a recording of:

"The Vikings" from "Fenland Suite", by Arthur Wills
I'm not the type of music fan who enjoys a steady diet of any ONE genre of music. According to those who know me - my tastes are wide and eclectic.
This piece spoke to the part of me that is a Wisconsinite of nearly pure German ancestry - who was raised in a Germanic Lutheran Christian tradition which among other things means "Any Church worth its salt has a REAL (probably German-made) Pipe Organ in it" (if you grew-up like me, or if you are just an "Organ Geek" - you KNOW what I mean...)
It tickled a similar musical "funny-bone" to the one that gets activated by Scottish Bagpipes (I have NO IDEA where that compulsion comes from, [AFAIK, I'm not even remotely Scottish] but like they said in "Conan the Barbarian" - that's another story...)
This piece made me utter the "holy F-blank-blank-blank!" my jaw went slack, and I'm certain that a big ol' silly grin appeared on my face.
The rare combination of foreboding, thunderous tones sent chills up and down my spine as if Odin himself had given my soul a stiff yank!
I had to dial my sub down a bit - I THOUGHT that I had it "dialed-in" for normal music - but I noticed it shaking and moving slowly across the floor....
Just me and our 3 dogs to experience this first go-'round.
If THIS is the sort of thing that moves you - check it out! You WILL NOT be dissapointed!

If a good RECORDING of this performance / instrument is this moving - I can only IMAGINE what the real-thing sounds like!
