Hello
I was wondering if anyone has been able to compare the CD-100 with the ERC-3? I currently have the ERC-3 and was wondering if going with the CD-100 would really be a downgrade, something I could hear. Currently running my ERC-3 thru the XDA-2 DAC
Any comments Appreciated
Cheers Howie

Also, if your not going to run your player all balanced it won’t make a difference IMHO. Sell the ERC and purchase the CD-100 and stash the extra bucks for something else.

Or you could get TIDAL and forget about spending money on a CD player. I would just get a chepo cd player and run it through the XDA.

Answering your question directly, they should both sound identical if you are running them digitally through any DAC or processor. Like you are doing. Hooked up this way they are both simply digital transports. If they are both doing their job properly there are zero sound differences at this stage.
Now, if you use the analog outputs, that's a different story. And that's where things get debateable. Emotiva will definitely say the ERC is better. Most everyone will tell you what you are currently doing is a step backwards. I suggest you take the XDA out of the chain and see what you think.
Emotiva has a 30 day mbg. Why not order one and try it?

Me too, I use the XLR Balanced output from the ERC-3 to the XSP-1 hence using the inbuilt DAC in the ERC-3. Cheers Gary

Keith mentioned the ERC-3 has a better DAC than the CD-100, I think

Hello
Thanks guys - I decided to keep my ERC-3. I cannot hear a difference between running the ERC-3 with the XDA-2 or thru the CDs DAC but I now am strictly using the ERC-3s DAC.
Cheers Howie

The ERC gets its DNA from the DC-1 a much step up on the XDA. The analog stages are real good too plus being Differential Balanced is always a great welcome addition. So my thing would be the ERC-3 to the XSP-1 directly and maybe use the XDA to Stream with from another source. That would be me.

The OP says he can't hear a noticable difference between the ERC-3 and the XDA-2. I believe him. I heard ZERO difference in sound quality when using the amps built into my Denon receiver vs using the pre-outs and using an XPA-2 amo. No difference. Most here would then say my ears suck or my speakers aren't good enough to play the difference, which to both statements I say hogwash.
