I did order the AV8802a and hopefully I get it here towards the end of next week. Once I get it and I’ve had some time to play around with it I will give a report back.

Dave Please give a strep back, I'm waiting till August to see what new stuff comes out or at least the specs. I'm debating on spending some $$$$ for a modular piece like the NAD V17.2 or a Marantz 8805. The RMC is and interest but not sure if I can wait or want to wait that long. Im looking for upgradability in a years to come rather than a whole new brick.

I got the AV8802 yesterday, and so far I am extremely impressed by it. The difference in SQ from my SR7009 is amazing. Best way I can describe it is that my theater room has come alive, music and movies have so much more depth now. It makes me realize that I have wasted a lot of time upgrading speakers, amps, etc all the while I was not feeding my equipment good quality source material.
I’ll play with it some more, but as of right now I don’t see a reason that I would be upgrading to the RMC-1. Of course once it is out and if the reviews are great I may change my mind.

Glad to hear that reports seem to be accurate then. The 8802a is definitely in its own league compared with other Marantz gear.

Have had my 8802a for over a year now and am overall happy with it, especially for movies. For music I usually use the L/R Bypass mode for the left/right speakers and Audyssey for the rest of the speakers. My biggest complaint with it is that they have never fixed the display showing what speakers are being used for each input mode. For example, when playing a DTS HD master 5.1 input, it shows all 11.2 speakers as being active - not correct.

I still think it's pretty sad that you have to go that far up the line and spend that much money to get decent SQ, of course I'm talking about new pricing, the 8805 which is the replacement for the 8802 is $6000 CAD yikes. Check the current going rates for new(not used) Marantz processors at crutchfield.ca www.crutchfield.ca/g_357450/Surround-Sound-Preamp-Processors.html?tp=73256Chad

Maybe that will happen in the future. But, you have to spend $3000 for an XMC or Anthem, both of which have less than half the features the Marantz has. Features aren't for everyone for sure, but if you want them its nice to know they are available. And then there are the likes of Classe, Arcam, and Krell etc, that again are even more and don't have the features either. $4500 for the 8805 puts it right about in the middle, so while everyone would like it to be less, its not totally crazy either.

Or just try and get an Emotiva prepro that handles the latest standards. 😱😱😱😱😱

Yeah I've never really understood the need for much of these features on these processors, the one that always made me laugh was the integration of a network switch marantz had, I mean I myself would rather get a outboard switch but hey thats just me lol, I think the biggest issue for me was trying to wrap my head around the Marantz AV7702 sounding less alive than my Sherbourn PT7020C4, emofrmcgy can attest to the difference of a Marantz to Anthem in terms of 2ch reproduction The Anthem AVM60 is $3299 up here and as much as I would like it really I doubt it would benefit my setup as I don't run Atmos, I would get balanced connections to my Sherbourn amp and most of these features you speak of are taken care by exyernal devices in my setup, I don't need Apple Airplay and such, for me SQ trumps features in a pre/pro, the one thing I do need and use is network control for zone 2 Chad

I can but it was also a 7702. I would like to hear a flagship Marantz, and to put it head to head with my Anthem. I’d also like to get another xmc in room to play with IF emo ever gets atmos implemented.
