PT-100

Hello. New to Emotiva with a new PT-100 pre. Was wondering how much weight it could realistically support? Got a fairly medium to heavy (~22LB) DIY power amp I want to set on top. Could it support it? The unit seems very well made, but I'm not sure just how much it can support - especially if there is no internal support structure across the mid-section of the unit. I'm excited to get it added to my stereo rig.
Thanks,

Hi redjr16 -
First - Welcome to the Lounge! New blood is always welcome and we're happy to have you.
Second - Congratulations on your new PT-100 - I bet you end up just loving it.
And third - to answer your question, keep in mind that the actual center of the preamp won't need to be load-bearing. The weight of the power amp will be on its four feet (over near the sides of the preamp). So side-to-side support won't be an issue. What you WILL have to watch is depth. Most power amps are significantly deeper than the PT-100. If all four of the amp's feet fit on top of the PT-100's casing, then I'd say no worries. But if the rear feet of the power amp hang off the rear of the preamp, then you have to find some other options.
I hope this answered your question - If not, feel free to clarify & ask again.
Cordially - Boomzilla (moniker NOT indicative of listening preferences)

Actually, the front feet and back feet of my amp are on 10" centers. It would appear that the amp will be well supported by both the front panel and the rear panel of the PT-100 if centered. My amp dimensions are 12" deep by 13" wide. I'm unable to fit the 2 pieces on my rack until tomorrow when my son is around. I've had some recent surgery and not to be lifting anything over 5 lbs! I was able to unbox the PT-100 when it came today though. Thanks.

Here's a picture of the new PT-100 in my rig. It's now providing the inputs for my analog and digital sources. My DIY (First One) amp - 150wpc is on top. More about the amp can be found here. Attachments:

That is a very nice looking amp, with great specs! I wish my Emotiva A300 had a option to add meters like yours! Even though, they do not add any musical value, they look great for demos! As you have found, the PT100 is made of heavy gauge steel, and will support a heavy amp. I have a VTA ST120 tube amp sitting on my PT100, and it weighs a little over 50 lbs.

As you have found, the PT100 is made of heavy gauge steel, and will support a heavy amp. I have a VTA ST120 tube amp sitting on my PT100, and it weighs a little over 50 lbs. Thanks for the comments. It is by far one of my best sounding amps! Whether a commercial product, or one of the many I've built - from an LM3886 based amp to an ICE module based amp. It is very detailed in it's sound and when paired with my relatively new ELACs, very musical. Yeah, the meters are just eye-candy. While the PT-100 is too new, and no time to 'break-in', it appears to add no colorization to the sound. Hope it stays that way! At the moment, this rig is used for streaming from a Volumio based server running on a Raspberry pi. While the PT-100 does have a MC cartridge setting for the phono input, the gain required for my Denon, DL-103 cart ( .3mv output), is simply not sufficient. So, I'm looking into building an external MC stage with more gain that I can possibly feed into the MM cart setting.
