Hi everyone been awhile since ive posted lol.Iam an orginal lmc1 lpa compo owner and they have served me well.Years ago i put away the surround sound system due to space issues ,but last year I uncovered my vintage technics suv8 integrated amp and had it recapped and tested. I have been listening to 2 channel for a while now and just love the vintage amp, yesterday i dusted off the lmc/lpa and hooked it up,sounded horrible compared to the technics amp, flat sounding in comparison . My question is ,whats the week link? The lpa amp or the lmc pre/pro.Both system are feed through a dac and the lmc is in bypass mode but its a night and day difference

First thing I would do is check that you are comparing apples to apples. 3-ish years ago I had a buddy who was comparing a vintage Marantz integrated amp from the late 70's to a UMC-200 and UPA-200 combo. He made the same claim as you. I went over to his place out of pure curiosity and quickly discovered that while the Marantz did make the Emotiva setup sound flat there was a good reason. He had the bass and treble knobs on the Marantz turned up 3/4 of the way for bass and all the way for treble. The UMC-200's EQ hadn't been touched (manually or Room EQ). That;s not a fair comparison. I'm not saying you have the same situation, but make sure both setups are as equal as they can be before comparing.

Agree with deewan. First, make sure all settings are as equal as possible. Also, sounds like your ears and brain have gotten used to the Technics SQ. Give them time to get used again to the LMC/LPA combo. There still might still be some differences, but give it time. I play 2 channel through a Yamaha 860 and a vintage Technics 5700 integrated amp. They both sound great, but there are differences and I have to give them both time for adjustment to enjoy each of them. I'm a big believer that our brain largely impacts SQ, at least to some extent!!

The lpa amp or the lmc pre/pro.Both system are feed through a dac and the lmc is in bypass mode but its a night and day difference A few thoughts to consider - - if the LPA hasn't been used in a long time, the electrolytics need to reform; basically you get to go thru break-in all over again, however I wouldn't expect this to be night/day once broken in, rather it will be more subtle - the LPA predates me and perhaps due to it's age it also needs to be recapped? - do you know friends whom you can borrow their pre-amp to replace your LMC and test it? The same for an amp of theirs? Normally the pre makes a much larger difference than the amp so I'd start with it.
