Hi all,
I am buying three speakers for my L/C/R front stage in my home theater and they will go behind a 144" wide Seymour XD acoustically transparent screen. For the center channel am I better off getting a 3rd identical tower, T1 or T2, or is there any reason to instead get the C2 since Emotiva and users are raving about it so much?
Thanks, Ross

Definitely the C2. It's built for the center. The center speaker is mostly for definition and clarity of voices. The bass is not needed.

Well since it's behind the screen, I don't know if there is a negative to get a third t2.

Definitely go with three of the same towers up front, I have three Chane A5r-xc towers across my front sitting behind my screen and it's totally worth it having all three the same. Here's mine

Definitely a third tower. Going with the c2 is a compromise, read up on the effects of the placement of the drivers on a center speaker.

Thanks everyone for the responses. I have read of the SQ issues with horizontal centers, and recommendations to go with 3 identical (normal, vertically oriented) speakers whenever possible, but the raves for the C2 had me wondering. I did confirm with Emotiva that they will sell a single. I am still pondering whether or not I need T2's, but I have 3 T1's arriving today to test out.
Cheers, Ross

They are honestly very small speakers but have lots of power. I have a feeling you'll love the t1s as well though.

I'm hoping to use my 14" high quad subwoofers behind the screen as stands for the L/C/R trio and thought the smaller height of the T1 would work well for that especially since some reviewers say the T1 tweeter height was a little low for them (will test it and if need be can angle the speaker down slightly). My screen is going to be 80" tall and I prefer the front stage to be higher rather than lower. I guess if nothing else the T1's that Fedex is bringing me today will give me an idea of the overall voicing of the T1/T2 speakers, and if I feel there is any lack of slam or volume capability in movie testing then I can grab some T2's. I'll be crossed over at 80hz to eight 12" Rythmik woofers so I can't se that I will need the extra bass of the T2's. Ross

Ross Well yeah but if you are going to be using so many subs, wouldn't you want a larger speaker to keep up with the dynamics they can provide? Though the T2s are small, the t1's are even smaller.

True, and that is the main thing about the T2 that intrigues me, 3db more efficiency plus higher power handling. Still considering it, will first see how it goes with the T1's tonight. Strangely the 3 speakers are being delivered by 3 different Fedex trucks. One has arrived and is set up as center.

Is Wendy in to audio as well?

Great question My wife of 33 years is not into the gear at all, but she is (usually) patient with my home theater hobby and has given me free reign in the basement to do as I please. I will say that after I have everything set up nicely in the various HT's we've had she does enjoy relaxing with a movie and she comments on how immersive it is, so I know she's enjoying the results of my obsession Cheers, Ross

I'm in the camp that thinks you're already way ahead of the curve by creating a theater where sound will actually come from the screen and not below nor above.
Really eager to find out what you think from using three identical speakers behind the screen but I'm guessing you'll be very satisfied.

Ross I use two Mach 5 IXL 18" subs and my Chane's keep up just fine and they consist of three 5.25 bass drivers and one 5.25 mid driver and the flat panel tweeter. Chad

I agree with Chad and others... since they will be behind a screen, I would go with 3 identical speakers and not use a horizontal orientation for the center. My plan is to build a new enclosure for my current center speaker, check my forum avatar, so all three mains are identical (see below) as we will have a dedicated room when we move into out new home. Will I add a third sub as a "stand" for the center channel... time will tell.
