Thinking about replacing a Classe pre with a Jolida Fusion Dac Pre in my office and was thinking about replacing my UPA-200 amp with a pair of these mono blocks. I am a little concerned about class D amps not sounding like class AB. I wonder if the tube pre would match or mask the class D sound. I like the idea of these things, just never powered my Magnepan MMG'S with class D before.
Thoughts, suggestions, etc welcomed.

It was a good read. Was more so curious about tube front-end with them.

It was a good read. Was more so curious about tube front-end with them. Mark ( klinemj ) uses nCore Class D amps with his Maggies and seems quite happy, I use tubes and am happy too. I think we both have SS preamps. I don’t see any reason not to try a tube preamp with the PA-1s, what are you considering and what are your sources? I imagine this early on there won’t be many with experience using a tube front end with these. Edit: I can see your signature now

I would love to try the PA-1's to see what they are like. Class D can be as good as Class A or...not so good.

The PA-1 sounds quite similar to any other neutral-sounding amplifier... regardless of what operating class it is.
(We used the Band & Olufsen ICEPower modules, which are used in a lot of Class-D "audiophile" amplifiers these days.)
And, for the person who was asking about using them with a tube preamp, the PA-1 is quite neutral..... Which means that, when used with something whose sound is not neutral, like tube equipment, the sound of the other device will dominate what you hear.
(There is no "Class-D sound" to "mask"..... the PA-1 is simply neutral, and will contribute very little sound of its own.)

I vaguely remember something about this now I'm super interested. I switch between my Hypex nCores and my Prima Luna tube amp with my Maggie 1.7's. Overall, I prefer the Prima Luna for lower volume listening - that tube bloom is quite nice! If I need more "punch" or just a change of pace, I use the Hypex Class D's. I found the Hypex less brash/harsh in the upper end vs. the Emotiva XPA-2 Gen 1 they replaced. Mark
