Looks really neat. It's neat that you have the knowledge to make sense of that stuff.

Thank you Garbulky I appreciate you very much. We'll see how it goes. I am in no hurry. I am doing this right, and for me and the machine, and for my friend's Father. So I have a bit on the line here. Thanks again!

I liked his Father very much. And his Son inherited his audio gear which has allot of Emotiva gear in it. XPR-1s and XPA-1s. He just didn't want to bother with this cassette deck and a dbx noise reduction unit, so I told him I was interested since I grew up in that time. A cheeky kid telling my teacher how to run his recording studio.
My friend said the deck had not been used in a long time. So I know right away the Caps are toast. There is a 4db channel imbalance on top of that. I have had tape machines for 40 plus years of one kind or another.

Thank you Garbulky. Kind of like going back in time. My very first open of a new blank cassette tape or Reel to Reel blank. Brings back fond memories.

Just so we can see what this cassette deck looks like. Which reminds me, I have a JVC KD-V6 3 head cassette deck in storage that I should do something with.

Hello Again. More happening on the JVC. Just recapped the Power Supply board with Nichicon Audio Grade Electrolytic Capacitors. Just woke up early and did it. Old original capacitors shown. Notice the annoying glue they used to hold down the components. Never liked glue. Some glues of the day became conductive over time. Creating a short circuit in your system. This again from 1978 here.

Good luck, vcautokid I'm not totally sure that caps go bad over time with non-use, maybe after 40 yrs. New caps of today will definitely be an improvement over the old I'm in the process of rebuilding a sub amp due to cap leakage. We have 2 cassette players that need belt kits. I'll bet between my wife & I we still have over 300 home-made tapes. (use to record every new LP during the first play) I question how good they are after years of non-use.

A bit surprised they only listed one Nakamichi. I've got a BX-2 from about 1982 at the cabin and a CR-7A built in about '87 that a friend gave me recently. They both still work perfectly and sound great.

Test Video after Power Supply Recap. I so do love the look and feel of the old stuff. So nice. What was the tune by the way, never heard it?

Actually this deck is 40 years old made in 1978. And sitting around is the worst thing for Capacitors with no electricity going through them which this deck had. The electrolyte dries out, cap could leak. I am doing this mostly for the experience and fun. So it is a slow methodical process. The Noise Reduction Board is next.

I had a friend with a BX-2 and made some good tunes in his studio with it.

Probably the tapes would be just fine as long as they are not stored in a fast wound state and in a temperature and humidity controlled environment they will last indefinitely.
