Hi,
I am back again looking for a new Pre Pro, I am still using my original Emo equipment from when they first started many years ago. I purchased my Emo gear from Speaker City in Burbank CA. At that time they said they were one of the only dealers. I was sold by the great trade in deal, The store has shrunk to a small install center with no showroom. When I bought my equipment I knew nothing about needing the emo card you use for trade in and the store seems to have exchanged hands. I have contacted Emo but they haven't been much help and the store has told me several times they would take care of it but never follow through. My question is first are there any suggestions and second if don't get the deal promised what should I get second hand. I just want to be more in line with the times. the whole process has soured me and my wife could not care less about theater sound but I would like something more modern.
Thanks and sorry so long

They may not have been a "dealer" but they carried the product which at that time was about 5 or 6 pieces. I had a guy named Lonnie at Emo that helped me out with my questions

Hmmm I'm in Canada so we only recently had dealers up here to order from, the last processor that I purchased that came with a 40% card was a Sherbourn PT-7030, but because I am in Canada it was on file with them and not a physical card. Try calling again this week and talking with Lonnie if that was who you had talked with back then, he may not remember for it was many years back but what needs to be figured out is if the store had the card or Emotiva, because of the timeline though it may be a long shot in the dark.
If nothing comes of it I have seen the HDMI 1.4 version of the XMC-1 selling used for around the $1200 mark and there may be a influx of them for sale once the RMC-1 is shipping, if Atmos and 4K aren't a big deal to you then the XMC-1 would be a good choice, there are of course other processors out there like the Anthem AVM60 and Marantz AV7705 but they carry a high price tag compared to a used XMC-1 HDMI1.4 due to them having Atmos and 4K capability.

Thanks Chad, I will reach out again to Emo, unfortunately I never new about the card as the means of the trade in deal. I was definitely on record with Emo as they used to use their own remote that was very troubled and Lonnie was the one who helped get through it. Trouble is everything was recorded on paper and no one at Emo is going to go through the trouble of finding my records.
I appreciate the input
Don

Your most welcome Don, hopefully you get some info, I'm trying to remember myself if they had the 40% card with the MMC processor or that started with the UMC-1 ? either way if it doesn't pan out there should be some XMC-1's on the market soon Cheers, Chad

Hi Don ; if its not on file theres another route worth considering [or keep an eye out for other card offers] Like Chad said I think the UMC1 was the genesis of the 40% off card - at least physically .. emotivalounge.proboards.com/thread/53439/40-discount-card-sale

The card was only offered for a limited time before they cancelled the offer. You may well have bought your gear before the trade in deal was offered?

The upgrade card started with the UMC-1, when it turned out to have a few bugs and quirks. Then that was "downgraded" to Upgrade For Life which ran through the last of the UMC-200's (of which I am a proud owner).
The "trade in deal" you were sold on sounds typical of something an overeager and somewhat unscrupulous sales person might make up to get the sale. I wouldn't expect anything from Emotiva on this.

For the umpteenth time in I don't know how long, here is the post by Dan that explains UFL The 40% off card is however a one-off, once you've used it(no matter if you used it and then sent the processor you bought with it back within the trial period) it no longer is good. OK, OK ,OK... Here we go: It's called "Upgrade For Life". That means it does not go away until you do, or we do. If you have purchased a qualifying product... that is if you are the ORIGINAL owner of ANY Emotiva processor or receiver we've ever built, you are in the UFL family. This goes all the way back to the DMC-1. As an UFL member, you are able to buy 2 units at your UFL discounted price, per model. If you want to by three of the same model you're gong to pay full price for that third one. This is to stop you from becoming a reseller! So, you bought a UMC-200 and then got yourself XMC-1 for 25% off as a UFL member. Great! Now you're going to get the new XMR when it comes out, that's cool too!. You get your UFL discount. It doesn't go away. You want our new little processor when it comes out?? Knock yourself out! You get if for 25% off!! Get one for your old man too! You saved him 25%! This just goes on and on for UFL members. This is our way of thanking you for being there for us when we really needed you. You took care of us, we're taking care of you. But as you can imagine, this is very expensive for us and we must close ranks if we want to remain healthy and strong. Also, we want to keep our prices very competitive for all of our customers, new and old. Ok, you get it?? It's very simple It's called "Upgrade for LIFE". The UFL club is going to close ranks and become "exclusive" on April 30th. If you're not in it, do is real soon or don't complain if you sat on the sidelines knowing that the time to act was now. Peace out, Big Dan

There are many considerations. The XMC-1 is currently the top processor in Emotiva's product line. There are more coming but uncertain when. If you are looking for a great sound and still HDMI switching more current with the times, this is a good place to start. There other processors out there too. I am sure you may have seen a few perhaps in your query. If you are embracing the 4K video move than the XMC-1 is a choice that puts the sound quality first. Viewing your systems list and viewing your post, I think this is the way I would do this. I enjoy my XMC-1 very much. The key is what you are looking for, and your expectations.
Processors are the nerve center of your system and can set how your system will perform on the whole. I have had AVRs utilizing their Pre outs, and was not impressed with the sound quality. I had gone Preamplifier Processor a long time ago and have not looked back. Again it is about what you want, and expect. I won't tell you there are other options available. Of course there are. They will be more expensive but won't necessarily be superior to the Emotiva offering. I get your point about the upgrade certificate, and I am staying out of that. I am the kind, it is best to get what you want first. If it costs a bit more, so be it. It is just a bit more money to get what you want. But well invested. I did this with allot of my technology, and learned that sometimes waiting and weighing all my options first pays great dividends. Your experience and expectations of course may vary.

I was told of the 40% discount when I bought my equipment. It was the deciding factor. As far as a card that is maybe a whole other story. But without question I was told of a lifetime trade in program and a discount of 40%

Well at least you are enrolled in the UFL program which gives you 25% off which is 25% better than 0% haha and really what other company do you know of that offers that, 25% off is a really big amount these days IMO.

The UFL program ended with the XMC-1 early on. I was waiting to purchase when Emotiva announced the end of the UFL prohram. This pushed me to purchase and become a member of that club. Emotiva from time to time would offer a buy back program but their prices never matched the open market. That said, it was good as it was swift and easy.

Thanks for all the replies, I think I will cut bait and move on. Who knows maybe even stick with another Emo. This 25% off thing sounds about as mysterious as the 40% I was offered how would one qualify for that? I purchased my Emo in a store in 2007 and have lost the receipt a long time ago.

What pre pro or avr do you have ? I would contact emo with your components serial number as that is how they handled my pt7030 enquiries [after Dan was very generous ] . 25% is literally shorthand for UGFL - upgrade for life - certainly worth an enquiry edit ; I see you have a MMC1 'not sure about the early generation lineage but still worth a ring .

Just call Emotiva and see if they have you listed in the UFL program. I didn't think I was but I am thanks to buying the UMC-1. I ended up getting the 40% off card AND UFL! In your case, if you dealer reported the sale to Emotiva in your name, you should be in. But, since you didn't buy direct from Emotiva, that would be up to your dealer. And, given you bought from a dealer before Emotiva had an official dealer program...who knows? If you are not, then you really shouldn't be upset with Emotiva...you should be upset with the dealer.
