Using UMC-1 optical audio out

I recently connected a blue tooth transmitter to my UMC-1 via the optical audio out. It does not work for all input choices. The optical audio in, the HDMI1 (my DVD player) and the tuner are the only ones where the audio is not garbled. Has anyone else used this option with good or bad results?

I've been using the optical OUT from the UMC-1 to a Pioneer receiver to feed into a whole house audio. No issues here for the past couple of years.
