Currently, I'm powering KEF Q300 speakers with the BasX A-100. I'm curious if I can connect a Klipsch R-120SW subwoofer? I'm a bit confused on the connection methodology and what I need to look for on various subwoofer specifications. From what I'm understanding I potentially have three options if I'm avoiding a receiver to connect a subwoofer. Option 1: connect DAC>AMP>Sub>Speakers if the sub specifies "line-outs?" Option 2: connect sub to line-out on BasX A-100, controlling the speakers and sub volume separately (speakers with A-100, sub on rear panel)? Option 3: connect DAC>Preamp>Amp running the sub off the preamp and the speakers off the amp controlling the volume of both from preamp.
I have another 2ch system with a tube amp that I'd like to run a sub on as well. Are sub "line-outs" completely passive; they don't change the sound?

If your DAC in front of the A-100 has a volume control you could use the volume control of the dac and use the A-100 as a "power amp". Ie you set the volume loud and then leave it alone. Controlling the volume only with the dac. THe A-100 has a daisy chain RCA output. Connect the subwoofer to that. Then match the volume of the subwoofer with that of the A-100 using the volume knob on the back of the sub. You will adjust the crossover on the subwoofer to blend with the speakers. Then you are set. You can use a frequency sweep test to ensure that you have a smooth transition in the crossover region and also that the subwoofer is in correct volume proportion in volume with the A-100. So basically jiggle the subwoofer volume knob and cross over knob till you get a smooth frequency response with an even transition. Now your room will show audible variations due to room acoustics. But just twiddle till you get it as good as you can in your room. If your dac does NOT have a volume control you can use an Emotiva control freak or a SChiit Sys ($50) passive potentiometer in between your dac output and before your A-100 input.

Thanks for the help, I'll reference the tips after purchase. I'll probably go the passive SYS route with the a-100 since I'm using a schiit modi.
