Huh, wasn't the line something like "I'll be here all week folks, try the veal!" Normally yes, but once I saw a comedian twist it using "pork" instead...the irony being the audience that heard the original use of the phrase were largely people who would eat beef, but...not pork. And, with the line normally being used after a bomb of a joke, it's a bomb on top of a bomb! Mark

...But when it comes to streaming, you have to consider how well does that fit with their existing production capabilities and what can they do to outdo the competition? Emo's reputation is not in this area... Nor was their "reputation" in speakers - but they've succeeded there. An electronic streamer is well within Emotiva's production capabilities, and at this time the streamer market may be established, but the "enhanced streaming market" is currently owned by only two small, ugly ducklings - Sonore and SOtM. Other streaming companies will quickly reverse-engineer these devices and include similar effects in their streamers. But as of now, they HAVEN'T. Which looks like a business opportunity to any company who can quickly fill that hole. Now it may be that Emotiva is short on engineering staff due to the roll out of their most ambitious product ever, the RMC-1. But this is the purest of speculation on my part. Another option might be to buy out one of the two small companies selling these "enhanced streamers," patent the technology, and sell licensing to others who want to use it. I don't really think that either company has the resources to fight off a hostile takeover... And we can debate until the cows come home as to whether this would or wouldn't be a good business move for Emotiva, but ultimately the only opinions that count are Cathy & Dan Laufman's. Their money, their choice. I'd like to see Emotiva enter the streamer market and thrive. But they have to see the potential first. Boomzilla True, their reputation was not in speakers but they hired a highly regarded, well-known consultant to help design them. The speakers offered excellent value and had a much larger target audience than would a high end streamer. They were able to produce several models of these speakers which added to their appeal, whereas how many different models of streamers can you practically market? Currently I doubt Emo has anyone on staff with the expertise to efficiently produce something to compete with the existing streaming companies and even if they were to come out with a product, it would have to provide significantly more performance at a significantly lower price, and it would have to have enough revenues to justify making it in the first place. And another effect from this would be to spread Emo even thinner. How many products have they talked about doing that have never seen the light of day, or did see the light of day but then disappeared pretty quickly? My opinion is the risk is high for minimal profits.

Although you make some valid points, monkumonku - I think we'll just agree to disagree on this one. Cheers - Boom

Go back and read my Haiku...much more fun than debating the unknown at Emotiva.
LOL!

I think that given my current system with an old Logitech Squeeze Touch operating as a Roon Bridge into my old DMC-1 via Optical S/PDIF (because the DMC-1 doesn't even have a USB input), that this would be mostly a waste. I suppose I could invest in some kind of fancier USB to Optical S/PDIF device ( KeithL mentioned the Audiophilleo II in one of his posts) which I could then use in conjunction with something like the SOtM MS-200ultra Neo, but then I'd be spending almost $2,000 attempting to experiment with retrofitting better sound for my old DMC-1. I'd rather spend that money on an RMC-1 (or XMC-2, or RMC-1L).
Casey
Casey, the Schiit Eitr is a fantastic USB SPDIF converter with galvanic isolation and a nice power supply. It only costs $179.00. I seriously doubt you can do better regardless of cost. I use one in conjunction with a microRendu into my XMC-1. Both devices improve the sound of my system, separately or together.

fbczar - why not plug a USB directly from the Rendu to the XMC-1? I'm doing that and it sounds amazing.

fbczar - why not plug a USB directly from the Rendu to the XMC-1? I'm doing that and it sounds amazing. I have done that, and I agree it sounds great, but I had the Eitr and microRendu so I thought it was worth a try. I had read on another forum that the combo of the microRendu and the Eitr was practically identical to the UltraRendu by itself. So I gave it a try and it does sound better. It can best be described as "more" of the same overall change in the sound provided by the addition of the microRendu. Perhaps the galvanic isolation in the conversion path from USB to SPDIF is in play. Maybe the SPDIF connection on the XMC-1 is "better" than the USB connection. Whatever, it works. By the way, the same folks who liked the microRendu/Eitr combo said the combo of an Eitr and UltrRendu was no better than the UltrRendu by itself. It seems to me that both devices are effective because they remove electrical noise that would otherwise make it to the DAC. I think it is that simple. All this talk about identical bits is not the key to the effect.

Thanks! I splurged on the ultraRendu, and I think I'll leave well enough alone.
We just need a big-bucks member here to try the Signature Rendu (way out of my price range)

I have a Signature Rendu SE, but did not have a Micro or Ultra prior. I think it sounds great in absolute sense, but I have no comparator. Klinemj has visited and I believe he has made statements to the effect he thought there was an improvement over his Ultra, but obviously listening to the two sources on two different systems colors the comparison.

Mark, if you wanted to, next time you are down this way bring me your Ultra to keep me going, then you can take my Signature back to your place and use it until your next visit and we'll swap back then. LMK,
Randy

A curious effect...
As I leave my Microrendu on 24/7, and a few days have passed, I notice its differences less than I did when it was cold. Are my ears adjusting, or does the MR sound more vivid when cold?

Our brains are constantly looking for new stimulation, and I think they get a little bored.

Are my ears adjusting, or does the MR sound more vivid when cold? I leave my ultrarendu on 24/7 (and I left the MR on also when I had it), and I never have noticed the differences going away. In fact, the other day, after not listening several days (due to another darn sinus infection that plugged my ears up!), I sat down for a listening session and was so thrilled to hear everything still sounding awesome. I even put on Carly Simon's "Boys in the Trees" and was so happy to hear that sound fantastic. (That's another one for me that I love but the CD doesn't do the LP justice). Mark
