So I just receive my Little Ego and I have a question for anyone using it on a Windows 10 machine and Tidal. In the Tidal settings I select Exclusive mode and Force Volume. Selecting Force Volume sets the Tidal app to 100% volume. However, this also sets the windows volume to 100%. If I adjust the windows volume control lower it also adjust Tidal's volume lower. Is this correct? Should I select this for volume or not? I was under the impression you want your player at 100% volume and adjust windows volume to the appropriate listening level. However, it doesn't appear you can do that separately.

Do not choose "Force Volume" unless you are running the EGO DAC into a preamp with a volume control or don't set it to "Use Exclusive Mode", otherwise it keeps adjusting the volume to 100% which is very hard on the ears haha. Set it to keep volume to a maximum but don't set it to exclusive mode and you will be fine.

Chad Problem with this is when I play MQA files I have to go into windows sound settings and change the sample rate. Guess I won't be using this as a DAC/AMP I'll just use it as a DAC feeding one of my headphone amps.

I was under the impression that anything like the Egos that do not translate MQA should just let it still play the music without any MQA processing. Since the Ego will not process MQA. Keith?

Yes you are exactly right, it sucks but the EGO came out before Tidal was streaming different sample rates so for me it didn't matter then but is a pain now, if you have a headphone amp I would run it to that for this exact reason. Cheers, Chad

The EGO doesn't do any MQA conversion you need to let the Tidal software do that but the EGO will not automatically change sample rates unless you have it in "Exclusive Mode" as it will then control the Windows output. harpo1 Just to throw out a suggestion about controlling volume. If you are using a desktop PC, one that remain stationary, and you are using speakers, I recommend a separate piece of gear to control volume. Emotiva used to make a super cool device called a Control Freak that I like a lot but a friend is using a $49 product from Schiit Audio called the SYS that is working out well. Link: Schiit SYS
You would then keep your app and system volumes at 100%.

On the Mac if I use the iTunes volume it’s digital but the master volume uses the resister ladder volume control in the Ego (ie; analogue volume) so no loss of sound quality.
Cheers Gary

I have a new Schiit Modi 2 on the way I picked up for $59 and was gonna pull the trigger on a Magni 3 but $99 turns into about $160 for me up here so I didn't do it but I should have because I need volume control and the RCA outs on the Magni would go to my Airmotiv 3b speakers.
