Yes and no at the same time, the problem is this. All Dolby Atmos is embedded in a True HD stream, so the display would always show Dolby True HD 7.1 and the object channel count would be constantly bouncing around as objects appeared and went away unless the movie had pinned channels. We have discussed this on many occasions here as to what is best to show on the display and we always come back to the same conclusion. If its Atmos, just show Atmos, otherwise we will get thousands of calls about the processor being defective because the display is constantly changing or that it is defective because it is showing True HD and not Atmos. So rather then try to explain to the world about how Atmos works it is just better if we simply show less. Hope this helps to explain things. Lonnie I think you misunderstand what users want. It’s not a list of CURRENTLY used speakers turning on and off as sound is played or not played through it. It’s a list of currently active speakers for the format used. Just like Denon/Marantz or really any other manufacturer. Just because you show it active, it may not be active with sound all the time. For example DSU does not use front wides, then these should be shown as inactive. Some atmos tracks are pinned, then show which speakers are active for playback from all installed speakers. DTS Neural:X and DTS:X are limited to 7.1.4, so which are active during playback and ”could” produce sound. Exactly what I was getting at but did not want to push the issue. Thank you for doing it for me.

lonnie Notes from third Loud Static Noise event. Looks like DSD did not work when RMC-1 was fed "Audio Only", but got Loud Buzz from all speakers when tried playing 4K Mummy (Tom Cruise version) in the below sequence of events. 1.4 Config: (disc)/OPPO203/Audio_Only ---> Input1/RMC-1 (disc)/OPPO203/Main_V/A ---> Input1/LG C8 77" OLED RMC-1 Audio: DSD Direct, DSD 5.1, 2.8224 MHz 1. Tried to play DSD CDs with "audio only" being fed into RMC-1 from OPPO203 ... No DSD Audio; 2. OPPO203 Off/On ... No DSD Audio; 3. RMC-1 Off/On ... No DSD Audio; 4. RMC-1 Hard Reset (Push Standby Button for 10s) ... No DSD Audio; 5. OPPO203 Eject DSD Cd, Insert 4k Mummy (Tom Cruise version) ... Loud Static Noise 6. RMC-1 Off/On ... Movie audio now works; 7. OPPO203 Eject Movie, Insert DSD CD ... still no audio 8. Cold Start Reset (unplug all devices from wall power, wait 10 sec, plug in everything, wait 2 min, power up RMC-1) ... forgot to write down if this worked or not ... probably did.

Now that I’ve finally finished re-wiring, setting up and dialing in distances and channel levels, I would also say, in my living room environment, that the RMC-1 sounds on par as my XMC-1 with Dirac. In the 3 hours I’ve had to play so far, I believe the surrounds are a bit more detailed and the center vocals seem to have a bit more depth, this is just first impressions compared with memory from the XMC-1, and I intentionally watched several movies on the XMC-1 before pulling it out. I’m anxiously awaiting DIRAC 2.0.

I have never set up a processor without some type of automated (ie Dirac) system and I am a little nervous about doing so.

Just use an SPL meter and set your distances and you will be good until DIRAC comes out.

I have a digital Radio Shack meter I use set on C weighting in the 80 dB range, I set the test tones at “Medium”, and I prefer to use 85db for my reference level.

Just quietly considering how much work Lonnie says it will be to matrix neural to dolby and vice versa ; How many would just prefer auro and/or the auromatic upmixer to be added instead [ or another proprietary upmixer ?] Easier to add the code this way ? as well as factoring in how much r&d work had been done on the redundant Emo upmixer ? I think the former should be left on the back burner considering what is more important ie dirac 2.0 ;bass management modules ;diracs new sub bass management etc I don’t know much about the Auro-Matic Upmixer, only that a few here think it’s good, but I have trouble with the concept of adding a new product as a solution to reconfiguring or un-hampering two other products. I think they should remove the Dolby/DTS restrictions, which as you say may be a matrix of some sort allowing the cross use of upmixers, as they’re doing work of that type, like perhaps when they’re adding DTS:X Pro (which I hope is inevitable). Depending on work and cost, the Auro-matic upmixer might make more sense (and more sales) than the proprietary upmixer; but I agree that Dirac, expansion, and fixing existing problems, are more important than any of this right now. To clarify what I mean ; when I say "matrix"thats just a long used common term/shorthand for applying a dsp mode to a discrete signal[ie dpl2 was a matrix encoder]. This eventually should be rectified as you say - just not concurrently as a high priority hopefully.. As it appears the Emo upmixer is still alive ; its worth pointing out that unlike Auromatic theres no license fees [great] and possibly less complexity if incorporation of the VOG channel is a prerequisite of AURO 3D.. Needless to say more discrete channels[than 7.1.4] are a higher priority than a dsp mode so DTS-X Pro should be 1st in line Having a quick scan of the IMAX enhanced thread @ avs I got the impression it didn't have legs due to its similarity to dts-x 's standard codec ;if you have the right aspect ratio screen it may appeal though .. www.avsforum.com/forum/286-latest-industry-news/3033960-first-imax-enhanced-titles-now-available-5.html#post57444610

…. if incorporation of the VOG channel is a prerequisite of AURO 3D. It is not. I find all of the feature requests in this thread somewhat amusing when there are many higher priority items for Emotiva to sort out.

In France have about thirty Bluray in Dolby Atmos, DTS:X 0 not a single film in DTS: X in French I forced to watch movies in VOST! (if I want to read I take a book) that's why an upixmer 9.1.6 will be really good to enjoy the full potential of the RMC-1 You loss so much information/feeling from the original movie not to mention the lips that is not following the lips is just awful. I would much rather watch a Japanese movie or any other movie with Danish subtitles than having it dubbed. I agree that so much is lost when a movie is dubbed, the exception is the Woody Allen movie "What's Up Tiger Lily?", and A Bad Lip Reading series with Jack Black and others on that Tube thingy. On a recent Movie Night! we watched the original USA theatrical release of Das Boot with English subtitles. I've seen the dubbed version and it's simply a different movie.

I think ‘matrix’ is a great term. As goozoo has promoted an IP, VNC, or Browser based (headless) setup; I can envision a matrix with the possible incoming codecs across the top, and the possible processing options down the side (like a spreadsheet). There would be default values in each space, some would be grayed out and un-editable, some would allow user preference (like DSU for DTSMA). A matrix, I like it.

Hi Guys, I had a weird occurrence yesterday, and I'm wondering if anyone else has had something similar. Apologies if this answer exists somewhere in the 206 pages of this thread, I tried some searching and didn't see anything. I'm on FW 1.5 RMC-1 set to video stays on standby. I turned on devices as per usual with harmony remote activity to watch a 4k UHD Blu-ray disc and when the disk played its Paramount logo video before the menu I got extremely loud static from all channels over the actual soundtrack.I ran to the volume knob and turned it way down as fast as I could. My RMC boots at -40.0 volume every time, so that was where the volume was at the time of the loud static. I had to get it down to -80.0 before I could hear myself think and power cycle the RMC by holding standby button. Normal performance after power cycle. The sound coming out of all the speakers sounded like I had the volume set to 0, but it was clearly at -40. Anybody have anything like this happen? Thanks, Luke Hmmmm...........That one is difficult to isolate. Do you know what format the opening sequence was and what format preceded it? Lonnie The display shows Dolby Surround TrueHD 7.1 when that sequence plays. It was Mission Impossible 3 4k UHD Blu-ray. Preceeding it would have been nothing I guess. Coming out of standby.

I have a new RMC-1 still in the box since I am saving/purchasing saving/purchasing equipment for a future home theatre and I figured I better buy one before Chinese tarrifs raised the price. So I apologize if this question could be easily answered by going through the menus myself. Mine is still in the box and may not come out for over a year, when my theatre is finally built.
Being able to assign speaker outputs for future surround formats has been heavily advertised in interviews about the RMC-1. I actually have a question about assigning them for the current surround formats. Would I be able to hook up speakers in the recommended locations for Dolby Atmos AND speakers in the recommended for DTS X and have the RMC-1 automatically use the correct set of overhead speakers when I choose the associated format?

…. if incorporation of the VOG channel is a prerequisite of AURO 3D. It is not. A vog channel would be a compromise based on the size of the theatre according to a Van Baelen interview I have read ? ie more needed for larger theaters.. Exactly what I said earlier

Yes and no. Yes you could use the two different speaker setups and the sound should distribute accordingly based on the CODEC (operative word being should). That said, you have no way to actually designate which speakers are to be used for what format graphically which is really what you need to layout the format correctly.

I think I will order the RMC-1 today, but I will need a pre-amp for my Rega P1. Should I get the XPS-1 or a Schiit Mani or some other pre-amp in the $200 range? I really don't want to get into the 1K range at this time on the pre-amp. Maybe in the future, but for right now I just want a decent pre-amp that will complement my system.

I'd rather see complete support of the major sound formats first: IMAX Enhanced, Emosphere thingy, and DTS-X Pro. - Rich I thought IMAX Enhanced was an alternate format. If it is actually just a DSP mode, then it goes to the bottom of the list. - Rich

Is there actually something new regarding the implementation of Auro-3D and Auro-Matic for the RMC-1?
