I have seven Emotiva amplifiers. 3x XPA2 Gen 2,, 2x XPA5 Gen 1 and 2x XPA1 Gen 2.
I have a problem with all three XPA2 amplifiers which when turned on, and intermittently during operation they make pop and crackle sounds - independent of any signal being input or not.
It is worse when they are cold.
Two of the amps exhibit this through just one channel, one of them is doing it through both channels.
Has anyone else experienced such a problem?
Thanks

If it's a mechanical/physical noise you can try loosening the heat sinks on the amp modules. Sometimes they came from China over tightened causing the modules to pop and click due to thermal expansion. If it's something coming through the channel to your speakers, I don't have any ideas for you.

Hello, I am new here... I have an XPA-2 and I thought I got a deal at $200 for it, but upon plugging with or without source it will make a crackle and or static sound then goes stand by mode with red flashing CH1 LEDs. Made it to sound thru my Klipsch reference floor standing LS a few times and now nothing. Tried cycling power on and off with Nd without connected source(s) it just go straight to "fault mode". I know it's protecting itself, but from what? Cheers!!!

Hi
So I’m still having static problems with my XPA2 Gen 2 amps
I have three XPA2 Gen 2 amps all doing the exact thing.
I have been cycling these through my local repair agent and have had mixed success in getting them fixed.
Most recently one amp was fixed but after about 4 weeks starting to exhibit the problem again.
Our experience is that there is problems in the power amp section and have been replacing caps and transistors trying to resolve it.
Very frustrating - over 18 months of stuffing around

We haven't seen this very much at all with our XPA amps.
However, as a very broad generalization, when you have random "crackles" on any modern amplifier, including ours... The most usual cause is a failure of one or both of the transistors in the input differential pair... (These are small signal transistors, in a very sensitive area; when they do fail, rather than die outright, they tend to "sizzle" or "get crackly".)

Thanks for the response Keith
Any thoughts on what causes this failure to occur across multiple units, if in fact that is the problem of course.
I’m sure we’ll find the problem eventually, there are only so many parts you can replace. The units are still in warranty so parts are covered but the labour cost is racking up. Thanks

I have two XPA 5 generation 1 amps. One amp started making a loud discharge sound about 10-15 seconds after amp powerdown on 2 of the 5 channels. Of course I purchased this one used, so I am on the hook for repairs. The second amp just started randomly crackling across seemingly all 5 channels...at different times. I will hear a pop/crackle in the center, and then in the left a short bit later. Then it will happen in one the surrounds. (I know it's not the processor/cables, etc as when I put my 20 year old Rotel amp in the system, the popping went away!)Unfortunately I have had this amp for around 10 years now, so I am on the hook for the repairs.
Any suggestions as to what the usual fixes would be for these problems I described so I can at least have a starting point to tell the repair shop techs when I bring them in?
