Hello- At what height should we keep surround speakers (right/left or back)? Most of the internet forums say 2~3 feet above your ear level but Dolby recommends at ear level or slightly above.
What are your thoughts or experiences?
Thanks.

For home theater it doesn't really matter, b ut above ear height is best. For surround music , at ear level is best.

I have speaker stand (34") in height and placed bookshelf speakers on them. For some reason while reading internet forums I'm thinking to wall mount 2~3 feet, also are Bipole or direct radiating speakers are recommended for surround left/right?

There are three basic speakers used in the surrounds. Mono-poles, which are nothing more than bookshelf or towers positioned accordingly. Then you get into the bipole/dipole speakers. Some are purpose built as bipole, and some are dipoles, and a few are both, usually selectable via dip-switches. You can get more from this AVS forum thread than you ever will here. Lots more experience, more posters, etc. I've read a lot of that thread, and it's why I've kept my selectable dipole/bipole Emotiva ERD-1's, in dipole mode. Funny, Emotiva have never bothered to produce the selectable surrounds in their newer models. I still think their Reference Speakers (ERT's, ERM's, ERD's) are the better of all the speakers they've offered to date. I've heard the new T1 tower. Nice sounding speaker, but far short of the sounds of the big ERT-8.3s I had for 5 years.
