You might also want to check and see if you have any DC current in your AC supply. If you do put a CMX2 first and then the CMX6 into that.
I sometimes see 0.2 VDC and usually have some DC coming off my Variac that I use to supply my tube amp.

My theory -
Whole house surge suppressor at the breaker box (not yet installed - mine's on order) - then
Big, cheap surge suppressor (sacrificial) - then:
Optional 15-amp ballast transformer (not currently in the system - mine got old & started making mechanical hum - I'm looking for another) - then
Secondary surge suppressor and high wattage power conditioner (CMX-6 - feeds power amps directly) - then:
High-quality power conditioner last (feeds source components / low power DACs, etc.) - mine was a homemade one, but the caps got old & I haven't gotten around to building another yet - so for the time being, I'm just using a cheap power strip.

I too have a whole-home surge protector. The licensed electrician that installed said that it was a great investment, but that I should still use surge protectors for anything I cared about.

About a week ago we had one of our frequent lightning storms and a house was hit about 3/4 mile from us, and it burned to the ground I'm gonna guess that none of these surge protectors would have had any effect. I wonder if there is anything one could put on the house, attached to the chimney down into the ground, that would keep a strike from tearing apart the house, and instead channel the energy away. Lightning is astonishingly powerful.

Yepp, they are actually very common here in Germany - and they do absolutely work!
