First of all to vector us in the right direction. Desktop, all in one, notebook, ultrabook. What kind of computer are we talking about? Allot of gaming notebooks these days for instance. You say you want to stay away from PCI if you decide to move on, which is cool. Your JBL's accept balanced XLR, or 1/4 inch Balanced. www.jblpro.com/www/products/recording-broadcast/3-series/lsr308#Features for more. Fortunately you adjust for -10db or +4db, so connections are no sweat. The PT-100 makes allot of sense for not allot of money. Just use the USB digital out or the SP-DIF coaxial/Optical if your computer is so equipped, set your computer output once and throttle your output to the JBLs from the PT-100. That is RCA to 1/4 TRS from the PT-100 to your JBLs. Like these. www.amazon.com/d/RCA-Cables/Hosa-CPR-202-Stereo-Interconnect-Cable/B000068O17/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1545050969&sr=8-3&keywords=rca+to+1%2F4. The PT-100 will allow you to listen to other sources even beyond your computer if you want. Since your LSR-308s are self powered studio monitors, you have the PT-100 be your central hub for all your analog and digital sources. Even spin vinyl if you want. So your gaming experience and so much more is covered by the PT-100. A great solution, great value, and great versatility. What is better than not just being in the game, but making it a bigger game.

Well it’s a desktop Pc.
It’s kind of hard to justify spending the $299 that’s all. I mean I paid $240 for the pair of Jbl lsr308 brand new no shipping or tax so I would literally be spending more on the Dac then the speakers which usually is a no no in the audio world.

Hmmm intersting. That is one way to look at it. External DACs run the Gamut money wise. From like the Audioquest Dragon fly on up for instance. I can't speak for the audio world. Just for me. I use a all manner of connectivity where the application calls for it. Depending on what you are doing, yeah it can get spendy fast. The PT-100 gives you allot of bang for the buck for what most charge allot more for a decent external DAC by itself. Stand alone DACs, but there are always exceptions. www.amazon.com/Audioengine-D1-24-bit-Digital-to-Analog-Converter/dp/B006IPH5H2/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1545051627&sr=8-5&keywords=DACIs one such solution above. Depending again where you want to go. The above link might be your solution. The Audio World is a big place with allot of options. So I hear you. Audio often does not always work in proportions here. Just look around here. The system compliments and choices are vast. Part of the fun of our hobby. Hope this helps your solution. Enjoy the gaming experience.

That's a poor way to look at it, you got the speakers for a really great price so you can't price a DAC/Preamp from that or you will either get nothing or something not worth it at all, your gonna pay more from other companies if you pick up something comparable to the PT-100, you need a DAC that can also do volume control. That being said if you don't need to make use of any other inputs I would suggest the Schiit Fulla, it is a small form factor DAC/Preamp/Headphone Amp, you would need a 3.5mm to 1/4" conversion cable though to wire it to your JBL monitors The cable is $8.40 - www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/CMP159--hosa-cmp-159-10-foot-3.5mm-trs-to-dual-1-4-inch-ts-cableThe Schiit Fulla is $99 - www.schiit.com/products
