I put my physical music copies in alphabetical order so I do not to have to use a flashlight or take 20 minutes to find what I am looking for in my collection.

I ordered a Bluesound Vault 2i. This should complete my 2 channel system.

Whenever possible, compress to ALAC or FLAC. You'll save maybe 30% of storage space and be able to recreate Bit Accurate copies of the original material.
ALL my CDs are so encoded. And than I make MP3 copies for the portable player in the car or put on a flash drive......

I-Tunes organizess by Genre, Artist and Album......so you've got several ways to 'slice' it. When I click on 'SONGS' I get an alphabetic list starting with ABBA and going from there.to Wynton Marsallas. Letting the software do the work saves LOADS of headache and time.

Right now I am subscribed to TIDAL..it has everything...huge variety of music of all kinds, videos, catalog and you can setup you own playlist all with listening to your music in CD quality. Check out the website.
Also new kid on the block is AMAZON music which seems to be trying to take the edge away from TIDAL. AMAZON has a FREE 3month trial period.

IMO, no longer any reason for that. Put everything on a server with some kind of organizational scheme. On my setup I can slice it any way I want and find any specific ANYthing in just a few seconds. I even have a 'remote' app on my phone so I can control the music server computer without leaving my chair. At the same time? I could load the same software on a Tablet which has a much larger and more visible screen.

Thus a physical copy

My humble opinion, easiest and most flexible solution is a NAS, network attached storage device, with a streamer in the rack. I have to agree with LuisV. It took me months of researching music servers and streamers to realize that a NAS was the way to go because of the versatility. I purchased a QNAP NAS and a Bluesound Node 2i DAC. I am not an IT guy, so setting it up took a few late nights, but now that it is up and running, it is great.
