Hello all.
For the past 3 months one of my XPA 100's would randomly shutdown during startup. My XPA 100s and one XPA-5 are are triggered to turn on when the processor turns on, and only one has this issue during startup. Now it's hit or miss if this happens, but when it happens I press the button to turn it back on and typically it takes 3-4 tries (average) for the unit to stay on. There's no flashing of lights, the unit just goes from blue back to orange. Could it be the trigger port on the processor or the amp itself? I'm thinking it's not the former because this happened with my XMC and currently happens with my Marantz 8805. Hopefully it's not something like a bad amp. Has anyone experienced this or can anyone help me troubleshoot the issue. I figured I'd try here before calling EMO.
Thank you,
J.Nguyen

I think it's time to contact Emotiva. ONe thing you can try is to remove the trigger cable and see if it turns on and off with the power button

Ultimately I knew I would have to call. Honestly, I was just hoping with some sort of luck it could be something easy because I know how slammed they are and it could take 6 months to get this back I'll take the trigger cable out of the equation and test it for a few days. Thank you, bulky.

What you are seeing is possibly short circuit protection, I'd strongly suggest you try disconnecting the speaker cables first, then turn it on. If it no longer trips into protection mode then it's either the speaker wire or the speaker itself. I'd then try swapping speaker cables, if the trip follows the speaker cable then you know it's the problem. Maybe time for a new speaker cable, but I'd check the connections first. If the speaker cable work OK then I'd try swapping speakers, same deal, if the trip follows the speaker then you know that's the problem.
Cheers Gary

Great point Gary. Recently I had cabling ran in wall to various speaker plates, this was something I was going to do myself, but I didn't have time. I could very well have a pinched cable somewhere; at least to that particular speaker.
Thank you

This is a few years old thread, but I'm having exactly the same problem with one of my XPA-100s! As I'm in Canada and it is too cost-prohibitive to ship it back to Emotiva, I tried taking it to a local shop. Well, suffice to say not all age brings wisdom He said he couldn't find anything wrong with it. I'm just wondering if the OP was ever able to solve the issue. I'm actually going to retrieve it today, and will take it home and try some of these things. But, after this one went on the fritz, I eventually connected the centre speaker to one of the channels of my BAS X-500 and I haven't had any similar issues, so I don't think it is cable or speaker.

I got it back and hooked it back into the system and it is working. But, I keep hearing a relay click periodically. I had heard this before the unit started fritzing out and not while it was out of the system, so safe to assume it is that unit. Any ideas as to what this might mean?
