If you read other forum about the Arcam you will find that they seem to have many early bugs. First buyer are not happy at all... Dirac are still not available for them either.
So I decide to keep my RMC-1L and will try to work with Emotiva to improved the future firmwares. The sound quality of the RMC-1 is the best so I really hope Emotiva solve almost all bugs and also get out Dirac ASAP.
If use the RMC-1L everyday in my family room and yes the unit have some bugs here and there but it do work almost all the time. It’s not the disaster that some Emotiva hater try to spread on other forum.
What I guess is in 6 months almost all pre pro 16 ch unit company will have a working unit with Dirac. Emotiva included. At that time, sound quality and price / performance ratio will be back in the discussion and pretty sure Emotiva will score high on many front. I will be very glad I kept my RMC-1L and be patient.

Totally agree. They do need to fix the switching issues though. I don’t mind the muting before the song but if my family ever uses my system they should be able to turn it on to watch a movie and not get a green screen.

Just to clarify, the JBL is not fully balanced it used two 8 channel ESS DACs. - Rich Both the Arcam AV40 and JBL SDP-55 are in fact differentially balanced at the outputs. You are correct in that they both feature 2x 8 Channel DAC IC's (ESS 9026 and ESS 9028 respectively). However each individual DAC channel has both a + and - current output with reference to 0v. The term 'Fully Balanced' is one I find confusing as it is often used to describe different things. The most common use, at least here on the lounge anyway, describes an analog signal path that is balanced from input to output. In that respect neither the Arcam or JBL meet the criterior as all analog inputs are single ended with RCA connectors and the inputs immediately undergo an AD conversion. Is it better to describe this a balanced differential from the DAC to the XLR outputs? When I asked on AVS if the SP-55, the answer was NO. - Rich

Agreed, I had a few hours at the dealer with the AV40 and the XMC-2 and bug levels are not that dissimilar right now. Arcam is way faster to switch but has a few decoding bugs as well and I have some pretty big bugs with zone 2. Both units reliably decoded TrueHD/Atmos and DTSHD/X for me with Kodi, both had trouble with some DD+ streams, the Emo had trouble with DTSES and DTS 24/96 too.

I find it pretty wacky that anyone would ever give Monoprice north of 4K for anything let only 100 bucks. I often feel buying an HDMI cable from them is a bit of a gamble. Just saying.

Wel, as everyone has already said, the Monorice HTP-16 really isn't being made by Monoprice. It's just a rebranded OEM product. From ATI if I understand correctly. That said, as Hair Nick noted, you won't be going to ATI for Customer Support. You'll be going to Monoprice. And if reports are right, that basically means that you'll be getting firmware updates with very little transparency or input into that process. This is an area that I think that Emotiva could probably handle just a little better in terms of transparency. It's absolutely impossible for them — or anyone — to address all of the bugs on the schedule that everyone wants. But it would be possible for them to have a bit more of a public face regarding which bugs they have registered, which ones they've reproduced in house, and which ones they're working on for the current Firmware Release Cycle. And as I said, even with that there would be people irritated that their favorite issue wasn't being addressed in the current "sprint" (to use an Agile term). The other two things I'd do would be to A. have a mechanism to collect a complete dump from a system in the field for debugging purposes, and B. support Network Firmware Updates. But take all of these thoughts as just an engineer doing Monday Morning Quarterbacking ... Casey

Only wacky if you're ignorant enough to merely see the name Monoprice selling it and put no research into the actual components and backing behind it.

And if reports are right, that basically means that you'll be getting firmware updates with very little transparency or input into that process. This part I'm not so sure about. Based on how quickly forum feedback tied to beta tester input was incorporated into wanted changes and one of the reps being somewhat involved on the AVS forum thread, I'd wager firmware support based user feedback will be better then people expect. Also. It has been revealed that the HTP-1 will have it's own kind of data dump/error reporting.

How can anyone trust a company that delays a major product release like this??? As opposed to trusting a company that rushes a product without full functionality? I'll gladly trust delays due to polishing a product for release over rushing a product that isn't ready just to please those without patience.

Thanks Rick ; same sort of restrictions as a bottom end NAD like the T758V3 . Have to go to something dearer like the new Audiocontrols to get some assignability

News flash - The HTP-1 is being released with piece mill software - many features yet to be implemented. Here is the notes for V 1.0
HTP-1 Release Notes, version 1.0.0
Initial production build, December 20, 2019
Welcome
Congratulations on your purchase of the HTP-1 and welcome to software version 1.0. The HTP-1 is easily updated via its network connection and also easily reverted back to any previous releases so you are not stuck with an update that you don’t like.
This release note describes the state of the first official software release. It’s intended to help you, as a user, understand what features are and are not yet complete in this version 1.0. Version 1.0 is not expected to be a long lived version. Please check for updates.
Basic Features
The basic audio and video handling of the HTP-1 is quite stable. You should not expect crashes.
You should be able to play any audio source that can arrive over HDMI. Control over a wired network is very stable. A detailed user guide is to be available on the Monoprice web site. An earlier draft of the user guide is available via the help links in the web GUI on the unit itself.
Open Issues / Update Plans
The HTP-1 software team expects to continue updating this product for some time. The team expects to address the list of open issues. These features are not yet ready. The are to be enabled by software updates.
USB Audio (USB DAC function) not yet supported.
The secondary 'downmix’ output is not enabled in version 1.0.
Alexa Smart Home Skill has not yet been certified by Amazon so you cannot find it in the Alexa stores.
You cannot yet configure WiFi connectivity from the front panel: You must configure it through the wired Ethernet.
Roon compliance not complete.
WiFi causes dropouts on BlueTooth. Turn off WiFi to use BlueTooth.
Bluetooth audio can have (subtle) glitches. This is a software issue.
Some infrared remote keys (color, ABCD, 1234, BT Pair) are not implemented.
Several issues can easily be worked around.
If you connect to the wired Ethernet, setup WiFi, then remove the Ethernet, the connectivity page will hang at the donut forever. Everything else works, so just make sure your connectivity page is setup completely before going over to WiFi.
Multiple WiFi access points with the same name can be confusing.
Dirac calibration will not work if a surround mode is enabled. Best to choose the analog input and the direct sound mode before performing a Dirac calibration.
Upgrade Plans
It’s always tricky to discuss planned future upgrades. It’s hard to know the future. But there are several features that we do expect to roll out:
Run PEQ before or after Dirac
The Dirac Live system is expected to be updated to include Dirac bass management.
The DTS system is expected to be updated to include 16 channel support with DTS-X Pro.
The user interface is expected to be updated to include support for saving and restoring configurations, including custom equalization. I believe this should answer several of the questions posted earlier.

Not really seeing anything wrong with these release notes for their official first firmware release. Especially by current market standards for similar price points (Arcam and Emotiva). *shrugs*

The only thing I see wrong with the release notes is the rather simple grammar that’s used. Our tech writers would make things sound a little more professional so I suspect that the developers’ are from overseas.
But that’s a minor point. Congrats on Monoprice for delivering Dirac, if the 12/27 release date sticks, is this the first “new” unit in 2019 to get Dirac?

I think the USA is ranking well below "foreign" countries in all subjects, including English. Phrase-based bulleted release notes work very well. - Rich

If the date sticks, yea. If it gets pushed back to the New Year than possibly Arcam may have a release ready by then. Then the JBL is supposed to drop around February with Dirac included....which I would hope considering the later release date.
The uncertainty for all of them is Dirac Bass Managment, but even Dirac doesn't have their own ETA for that I think. Not asking to throw mud at Emotiva, but is the Bass Management module going to be supported by Emotiva in the future? Or would that be another software they'd have to write themselves on top of "standard" Dirac?
