In my experience using 6922's from different brands in a preamp they all sounded different. Not a night and day difference however.

For Telefunken NOS E88CC/6922 tubes, someone recommended tubes with Fat O Getters, Gold pins, and Gold rods--as pictured below... Manufactured in Germany, preferably in 1960 or before... This is all from someone who seems to know what he is doing... He is the expert... I'm not.

I also currently have a pair of these 6N23P Reflektor "Holy Grail" 1975 SWGP Silver Shields (also e88cc/6922 types) on my Monolith Cavalli Liquid Platinum, headphone amp, and they're making the amp sing very nicely, although they have no gold pins. I am yet to compare them to the Telefunkens, in order to determine which of them is the real king of the castle. If you haven't already, you might also want to check out this wide ranging review and ranking of the E88CC/6922 category of tubes posted on head-fi.org by the author of The 6922 Tube Review : www.head-fi.org/threads/6922-tube-review-17-top-6922-6n23p-e88cc-cca-7308-e188cc-tubes.761078/

The gold is more of a oxidation issue - or rather the absence of oxidation with gold. Some say they also offer a better fit in the sockets.
Many NOS tubes have copper rods. I'd look at those just based off of the attached list.
