I recently purchased an RMC-1 and I have a circa 1979 Hitachi HT-324 turntable with a new stylus that works just fine. Should I purchase the $200 XPS-1 preamp for my turntable or break down and purchase a new $400 turntable that already has a preamp in it? Anyone using the Emotiva XPS-1 High-Performance Phono Preamplifier?

If you can wait a till the new Technics SL-1500C hits the streets, that would be the ticket. Otherwise, yes the preamp thing.

I like it better than the schiit mani (also good) , and my upgraded Jolida JD9 sounds better but not by much.

If you end up sticking with LPs you'll probably upgrade TTs and are not likely to have a built-in preamp. I'd get the XPS-1. - Don

Thank you for the input. My vinyl collection is very old and the SL-1500C is a bit pricey, so for now, the XPS-1 it is, thanks.
