Hello Everyone,
I have had awesome luck with very informative responses here so I thought I would post another question and get your opinions. I would like to add some Atmos speakers to my current set up. We have recessed ceiling lights right where the speakers would optimally go so I am thinking add ons may be the way to go.
Either way, what I am wondering is what would be a good match to my current setup? I am currently using Emotiva T2 for L and R, C2 for the center and E2 for the surrounds to make up my 5.2 setup. In addition to my ceiling lights possibly being in the way of ceiling speakers, my room is not an optimal layout at all. I actually have the E2 speakers mounted behind the seating position about a foot and a half above ear level (not sure if this would affect the ability to use Atmos add ons to the towers or not)?
I have done a lot of reading and have determined that it may not be necessary to match surround or Atmos speakers to the LCR, but I am very picky and would like to get as close as possible (man I wish Emotiva offered some).
Again, any input would be greatly appreciated!
James

Perfect world? Same 11 speakers should be used for all speakers.
However that’s not realistic. So as close as possible is your best bet
With today’s room correction it’s definitely not as essential for exact matches. Plus that and the combination of 11 speakers being used at the same time. It’s tough to tell as there aren’t a bunch of direct pans as there are across the LCR
I would just stay in the same family (I.e. soft dome etc)

They don't weigh much and they're smaller than the pictures would have you think. Since they're only 4" deep, I have plenty of room to recess a good portion of the enclosure back into the ceiling, dress them up, and still have enough room to allow them to pivot. I agree that not having a good "Atmos" solution in the Airmotiv line seems like a hole, but here's something for you to consider if your room can accommodate it...

Thanks for the response, are you referring to the Monoprice speakers in particular? Their reviews are pretty impressive that is for sure and the price isn’t bad at all.

My ceiling is about 8’ I would guess (not home to measure). I will look into the E1s and see if it would be feasible. I will definitely have to see if I can conceal them well for the WAF as unfortunately my HT is in my living room. I appreciate the input!

You are referring to 11 matching speakers....... I wish! I was bound and determined for our new house to have a dedicated theater room but reality set in. Best I think I can manage is a 5.2.2. You bring up up a good point though, the Emotiva’s have a folded ribbon tweeter, what do you think would match best with that because I doubt I will find an offordable tower add on or ceiling speaker with that technology.

Imho since you won’t find ceiling speakers with ribbons. Go with a great sounding speaker that has wide dispersion The diysoundgroup volt 6 or 8 is perfect for this. Cheap too. They also can be setup infinite baffle. Only drawback is no speaker grill you would have to make one. But I don’t and love the look of exposed drivers

When replacing my Klipsch I almost went with the Fusion center. Then couldn’t make up my mind and they were nice enough to refund my money. Finally decided, made the purchase and they were out of stock and again refunded my purchase. After that I found the Emotiva speakers. You may be on to something the reviews are fantastic on those speakers. Do you think they would be ok open baffle or do you think I would be better getting one of those foam ceiling baffles?

I have a question, is there a big difference in sound ( not sure what you call them ) when you have the ceiling speaker boxed above the speaker? Does any sound get lost in the ceiling?
Cheers

The volts? Yes they can be open baffle. Just need to modify the baffle that comes with it slightly or just completely flush mount them I absolutely love mine. They would be great as LCR to be honest. They are that good

Looking at it a little closer I know I can go with ceiling speakers but it will be tough (or just a pain) to do. What do you guys think of the speakers that sit on top of the towers to bounce the sound off the ceiling? Any success with any of those? Is there a min or max distance your speakers should be from the seating position based on the ceiling height?
Thanks again everyone,
James
