If you're into headphones, here is something worth looking at, if even for curiosity's sake as these are pretty darn unique. They're pretty darn expensive, too - $3,499! But have a look. My Sierra 2's have RAAL ribbon tweeters and they are without question the best tweeters I have ever heard. Anyway, here is the link to the headphone web site: raalrequisite.com/sr1a-earfield-monitors/

Reminds me of the AKG K1000 design.

Looks mighty tasty Rickie, but the reality of the state of the art. So much to choose from that is really good for less. Of course there are more spendy stuff too. My sweet spot is much less. The Massdrop Senns 6xx for $200.00 is a great place to start, and the Hifiman 4xx for $170.00! That is just two. Spend more sure! Do you need too? Your call. By the way I got the TIN Audio T2 IEMs for $50.00 on Amazon, they are excellent. Next is a DAC for almost nothing. Candidates, the SMSL SU-8 DAC for $250.00! Or the Loxjie D10 for $130.00. See a theme here? Using the Monoprice Liquid Spark by Alex Cavalli. $100.00. Easy huh? Source? Mostly my Tascam DA-40 SD recorder, but Sony player at home needs some love so hence the DAC. Unless I can swing a PT-100. Out of stock though.

I just thought some folks in the Lounge might be interested in finding out more about them. The best I've heard are the ones I have now, the Senn 800's and even though they were what I consider expensive, it was worth it. They're worth the difference in price with the 650's. I'm completely satisfied with my system as it is now. The last audio gear I got excited about was the SP-14 preamp I got last year and since then the only thing that has really interested/excited me was these RAAL headphones. Not excited enough to buy, though! But given how good the RAAL tweeters are, I would love to hear what the headphones sound like. Someone pointed out to me with the discount card I could get an RMC-1 for about the same price as those headphones so which one was I going to buy first. If I had the disposable income I'd get the headphones. The RMC-1 doesn't interest me in the least because the XMC-1 does everything I need it to do. So I'm happy. www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZbZSe6N_BXs

It is just fun to have a counterpoint. So much of this audio is plain out of control. Call it the Fremmer effect if you want. I lambasted his perception of high end audio, and the reality it is which is definitely not most folks. I am speaking more for them these days. I think it is way more fun. By the way, the best Fremmer could do is insult me with no counter to my statements. Ever wonder why I don't take high end as seriously as I used too? It is things like that. It is fun to fantasize of things grand. I just don't waste my time with things that aren't mine or most people's reality. Your mileage may vary of course.

Another hobby of mine is wine (drinking, not making). I find so many similarities between wine and audio - there is plenty of snake oil and snobbery in both!

They look interesting. The funny thing is that, on their page, they seem to invite comparisons to "regular headphones" and IEMs.
However, they fall squarely in the price range of good quality electrostatics like the Stax SR-007 and SR-009 ($3k - $5k). Personally, I would never spend that much money on a pair of headphones... However, at any price point near or above $1k, I would say that electrostatics are the thing to beat - for detail, low distortion, and flat frequency response. Therefore, I think Raal should be comparing theirs to electrostatics. (Ribbons in general are also known for "sounding like electrostatics"....)
