A tuba works like any other brass wind instrument, it resonates as a reaction to being blown through and amplifies the player's lip vibrations with output tone controlled by a combination of changing the air flow path through the instrument and changing pitch of the lip vibration.... oh wait you said TUBE, not tuba... sorry.
