I remember reading an announcement, or maybe it was just a forum comment from Emotiva staff, that the DC-2 was coming out mid 2018. Are there still plans for this product? If so, does anyone know whats new and improved? MQA support?
PS. If that MQA poll is anything to go buy, most Emotiva fans seem to not care very much or actively dislike it. But I dunno, I listened to some albums on Tidal and I have to say there is a clear difference in quality vs. the standard Flac files (at least with certain recordings). Admittedly some recordings sound almost the same. But I suggest everyone at least try it once, I can only imagine what MQA sounds like with true DAC support.

I think it will be a real product, and maybe even on schedule. Were I betting man, I'd back that up...
OTOH, it still doesn't fix what I need most from Emotiva - a combination streamer / DAC with a Roon RAAT-compatible Ethernet input. Sigh...

Admittedly some recordings sound almost the same. But I suggest everyone at least try it once, I can only imagine what MQA sounds like with true DAC support. Considering right now that they offer a grand total of zero stand-alone DAC's, I'm pretty sure we'll see something from them. Whether it's a DC-2 or something else - who knows. I, for one, would like it to be MQA capable. I listen to a lot of Tidal and enjoy the MQA options over the standard FLAC, and I'd love to hear the last unfold's effect. I, like Boom, would like to also see them have a Roon Ready streamer. There is supposed to be a "thin client" streamer as an add-on to the RMC-1 and they have talked about putting it in a stand-alone box for other uses. I think they should...and it should be Roon Ready also. That opens a lot of doors for them. PS to Dan Laufman and Lonnie - if you are getting close on the streamer or a new top of line DAC, I stand ready to try them and give you feedback on them like we discussed at the last Emofest! If you can equal the performance of my Geek DAC and UltraRendu for comparable (or lower) price, you really have something! Mark

Thanks for the response guys, I would absolutely love a streaming DAC from Emo. Thats it, game over man. Game over.
This might be a little off topic but, what exactly does Roon do? Its software that helps stream your library stored on a hard-drive, right?

Its software that helps stream your library stored on a hard-drive, right? Yes - consider it an alternative to things like jRiver or Windows Media Player, but on steroids. It can play music off a NAS, or the internet like Tidal/Qobuz/etc. And, it can even be used as a multi-room system like Sonos. It's very seamless and easy to use, and it includes a lot of nice features. It overcomes all the issues of all the options I previously used. All you need is the software, your network, and a "Roon-Ready endpoint" (which can be as cheap as a Raspberry Pi or very pricey like the Rendu product line or other high-end options). Mark

rockman85Here is a link to the Roon topic here on the lounge. I went from a skeptic to a lifetime member. the hardest part for me was that the Roon site uses a lot of jargon that makes sense once you know it, but it hard to decipher until then. On the first few pages of this, the jargon gets explained. -->CLICK HERE<---This thread talks about my trial with Roon along with a Roon ready endpoint (micro-rendu). -->CLICK HERE<--Mark

And I'd have lost the bet that the DC-2 would be out in 2018. Sigh...
I think that two factors contribute to the tardiness of the product introduction:
1. The majority of Emotiva R&D resources are playing catch-up in the AV processor field instead of stereo development and
2. The stereo DAC market itself keeps changing fairly rapidly (Roon compatibility via RAAT? MQA? High-Rez? Ladder tech? DCS? DLNA? Streamer vs. DAC, etc.)
Will Emotiva EVER release another stereo DAC? Who knows.

Boom, My most recent purchase is the Pro-Ject pair (Streambox S2 ultra, $845 coupled with the Prebox S2 DAC, $345). The Streambax is a Roon endpoint and it does network interfacing, internet radio, Spotify, and Tidal. The pair also can do full MQA decoding with a choice of 8 filters. The boxes are tiny which is deceptive for their performance level. The streamer can be interfaced by Ios or Android apps, by direct IP address, or by using a touch screen monitor. I found a small touch screen monitor on Amazon for only $75 and it works great. I think this is a very good value.
