Overview. Been some changes to my system. Computer running (streaming) Tidal, YouTube as source via usb to the new Schitt Bifrost multibit DAC. I'm going into the (analog 1) on the XMC-1 from the DAC. Then from the XMC-1 to my new VTA ST-120 tube amp for 2 channel listening. (also doubles as 7.2 for movies). My problem is when I switch to (HDMI 1) for movies my Outlaw 12 inch subs auto sensing kicks in and subs work fine. When I switch to (analog 1) for 2 channel streaming (listening) the subs wont come on. Subs are running in duel mode in the XMC-1 Isn't it possible to run the subs with Analog output from the XMC-1 ?

What mode are you using for 2 channel? If you are using reference stereo, it will only play FR/FL and not sub.

Get another sub or two for your “direct” stereo listening. If one sub, look for one with stereo line level inputs and/ or high level left and right speaker inputs / outputs. Then wire accordingly, setup the sub crossovers to complement your main speakers for direct stereo listening, and then set the XMC-1 FL and FR crossover to large.

Thanks for the reply's guys'
Mark
I'm running in regular stereo mode and subs are a no go. The Reference stereo mode sounds very muffled or vailed with out clarity and definition
for some reason.

I don't own an XMC-1 but if you have it in standard stereo mode, bass management should be active according to the owner's manual. As far as ref stereo mode sounding "muffled," I would first check to see if your mains are out of phase.

I assume it has to in order for bass management.

Thanks for the reply's guys' Mark I'm running in regular stereo mode and subs are a no go. The Reference stereo mode sounds very muffled or vailed with out clarity and definition for some reason. It is quite odd that in reference stereo you say it's very muffled. That is the purest path from your analog inputs to your amps. The other mode options take any analog input, convert it to digital, and do something to it before before converted back to analog to send to your amps. Net, something isn't right in your setup for reference stereo to sound muffled vs. regular stereo. And, as dyohn notes, you should be getting sub signal with in regular stereo mode...so something is amiss. Mark

Just re-reading the manual...are you sure you are in "stereo" mode and not "direct" or "Reference Stereo"? Reference stereo has no sub and "direct" will not have a sub output UNLESS the source file includes a channel (like LFE) that uses the sub. Direct will not synthesize a channel that does not exist in the source. So, if you use Direct and you are running straight 2-channel into the XMC-1, then sub will be silent. If you are indeed in "stereo", then there's a setting that's not right and the sub isn't playing due to that.

That's the understanding I was under as well. I just went into the settings to make sure Loudness was not on and any other bass management was off. Now I know what's going on. If front mains are set to Large it disables the sub output. When I set fronts to small even though they are full range speakers (B&W CDM-9NTS) it then enables the sub output. Thanks for the help Mark

Thanks for the help Mark I was thinking that might be it. Glad you got it working! FYI, I have a way I use a sub in reference stereo mode. They say it can't be done - but with the XMC-1 and the right sub it can be done. It takes a sub with the right abilities. My Rythmik can do it, as can some others. If interested, I will find the link to my thread about that. Mark
