Took the family to see Captain Marvel this afternoon.
Boy there is a lot of junk going on previous to its release. Fake reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. Bs campaigns for and against the movie. With all this fake junk going on I really wanted to love this movie. I went in hoping that it was great.
Truth be told, its only good. At least that was 3 of my 4 family members opinions. Unfortunately I think I had a little too high of an expectation going in. Thats always a killer.
So from us, good not great. Glad we saw it, wish I hadn't sprung for IMAX (why is that theater so damn loud, we all had our ear plugs in the whole time).
Others?

That is strange my friend. Smart but strange. If I'm paying extra I'm going to get all of sound and hearing damage I can lol. I can't wait for the 4k disc release I generally like my theater sound to that of the commercial establishments.

And now that my system is Atmos enabled I most likely will never be in one again. I much prefer my system an convenience!

I’ll end up taking my 13 yo daughter next weekend to either the ultra avx or imax here in Calgary. I took my spl meter with me one time to see one of the newer star wars movies. It topped out at 100db, hurt the hell outta my ears. Was sitting in the 4-5 row. Went to see venom at the same theater but sat nearer to the back, didn’t take my meter but also didn’t experience the same level of ear fatigue.
I’ll go into this with low expectations, maybe I’ll be wowed. Can’t be as bad as black panther.

Black Panther was ok, a little too African for my taste. But there were some funny moments. What's with all of the femininity in these super hero movies? I was re-watching Solo the other day and forgot about the 14 year old girl with freckles that was supposed to be a bad butt fighter. I was like really? Yeah right...

I saw Captain Marvel yesterday, and I LOVED it! I had no expectations going in, and I'd heard it get given so-so reviews by others. But, both my friend and I loved it.
We saw it in 7.1, but the theater had those buttons you could push and order for and drink. So, I had 2 Stella "are-toes" during the movie.

Saw it twice already. Really enjoyed it a lot more on the 2nd viewing. The first time I saw it I was very underwhelmed with the theater's audio capability and it sounded super flat with no real detail even in the Big D theater. Went the second time with my wife and saw it in a dedicated Dolby theater and it was night and day and much more enjoyable.
Story wise I really liked it and am super excited to see where this character goes post Thanos. Now adding a character with her amount of power, I'm really hoping with the Fox merger, we get to add more cosmic story lines with Silver Surfer, Galactus, and Adam Warlock.
We already got to see Adam Warlock's cocoon in Guardians 2 so he should be coming soon.

I took my teenage daughters and their friend and we all liked the movie. I appreciated that there was more story focus and the action scenes did not get too tedious.
My local Sony theater does a good job audio. It's not too loud and does a good job in that I don't pay attention to it. Recently, I took the kids to a Dolby Laser HDR theater with butt kickers.
It was wat too loud, I didn't care to the laser light bouncing off the bottom of my popcorn. I'll never go there again.

What's with all of the femininity in these super hero movies? So what you are asking is "what's with all the femininity in CAPTAIN MARVEL"? This movie couldn't be anything other than being all about a super-powerful female superhero!

No joke I saw Cindy Lauper at Jazz Fest in New Orleans about 5 years ago and was really impressed. She jumped in later that afternoon with Arcade Fire and it was really fun.

Well sure, but this one was clearly about the Carol Danvers version. Interestingly Ms Marvel also refers to another superheroine a teenager called Kamala who doesn't have the same powers but took on Captain Marvel's name. There's also Sharon Ventura who is Ms Marvel.

When I'm hangin' with my old buddy Marc, there's a pretty good chance we're under the influence! LOL! Mark

simpleman68 you’d be surprised how very good a Cindy Lauper concert could be. Mrs insisted we watch one and I discovered she is very talented!

I think she's an interesting lady with vocal ability but her vocal tone is like cheese graters on my ears. Not looking to dog on her; now back to our regularly scheduled program. Scott

So what you are asking is "what's with all the femininity in CAPTAIN MARVEL"? This movie couldn't be anything other than being all about a super-powerful female superhero! How is it possible you missed the plural - "movies" - in his question? He even mentioned a 2nd movie to enhance the plurality.

I personally tend to have low expectations for movies that I actually go to see at the theaters, Captain Marvel was no different in this aspect. I quite enjoyed it though it wasn't by any means the best "back story/origins" MCU movie to date. I went to an IMAX showing, and completely expected to not be "Wow"ed by the audio, so I'm looking forward to the UHD blu-ray release for a home showing!
