I have been wanting XPA-1L amps for the longest time because of the small form factor and weight (easier for an old back to handle). Is it worth me considering a non working unit at a low price and having it repaired? Can't afford the ones that have been offered because my income (social security) just doesn't match up with the general asking prices.....

The only way I would do this is if the seller would send it to Emotiva for assessment first and get a cost-estimate for fixing it. Without that, you could end up in a situation in which you buy it, send it to Emotiva, and they might say it can't be fixed or the cost to fix is well above what you want to pay. Mark

I absolutely agree....
The XPA-1L is a relatively complicated unit... An out-of-warranty repair from Emotiva is not all that cheap. A local repair shop may be unable to fix it and, if they are able to, is going to want a significant amount of money for their services. Either way, by the time you get done, you're going to end up spending what it would cost to get a working unit second-hand.
If you want a small amplifier, with lots of power, that doesn't weigh much... You should consider a pair of our PA-1 monoblocks....

What speakers would the amps be driving ? more watts just means a tad bit louder haha, the power difference between the two amps will be roughly 3db more with the 1L compared to the PA-1

Just do what Keith recommended. A pair of PA-1s will happily drive the Maggies. How big is your room, and what is your listening distance?

I would get FOUR of the PA-1, than GUTT the speaker crossover and get a MiniDSP to handle crossover at line level.
Your panels will thank you.
MiniDSP 2x4HD will I think go Balanced connection. Good. The PA-1 prefers that, anyway.
If your room is Larger, maybe 3000 cubic feet UP, you will appreciate the extra power.
If there is a SUB involved? You might be better off with the 2x8, which will provide 'stereo' sub outputs.

I agree with Leonski, but shall we still be within budget?

I agree with Leonski, but shall we still be within budget? And I'd agree with jj2106 if I knew what 'budget' was?

I just meant the OP is obviously concerned with the amount of money he wants to spend...

The PA-1 is a gift to our ears, our rack space, WAF, and our backs, and our wallets. Emotiva hit a home run with this amp. To me the most amazing amplifier for everyone, at the everyone's price. Get 2, they are small. I want a couple too!
