Please, give me your honest opinions on the stand... Would you buy one if it were for sale and you could have some input in the build for your gear... Cable management and power strips. Solid Birch, zero resonance, very heavy. View AttachmentView AttachmentView AttachmentThe mains are too high relative to the center channel The main speaker heights, I did that for a reason, most of our listening is in the dining room, which is not pictured. The speakers are at the right height to make it over the furniture and swivel towards our main seating area. More music here than movies. Also, the system is completely adjustable, the stand itself can go up or down as far as height to say accommodate a new piece of gear. Thank you for replying!

It looks very well made - congratulations. Would I buy one, probably not because 1)I do not like steam punk; 2)I like shelf isolation via cones; 3) I like cone or spike coupling to the floor.

I like it.... and I like the steampunk touches... like the faucet and the gauges. The solid wood parts are also especially nice.
If I had a separate listening room I would definitely consider something like that for it (it has a lot more character than commercial units). (Unfortunately, I have a small house, and my listening room is also my living room, and I prefer wood furniture in the living room.)
On the steampunk notion.... have you considered adding a set of old-style electrical meters (like the ones you see in power stations and Frankenstein's lab)? You can still sometimes get them on eBay.... and the old-style D'arsonval meter movements are sort of universal (most of them can be repurposed and tied to modern circuitry).
Please, give me your honest opinions on the stand... Would you buy one if it were for sale and you could have some input in the build for your gear... Cable management and power strips. Solid Birch, zero resonance, very heavy.

I think with some thought, one could do some pretty interesting stuff with these stands. I thought of adding some industrial lights to mine, hard to explain, but for accent lights, especially in my room where the lighting is terrible. Thanks for replying, I really appreciate it.

That is really neat looking. If I was single and had my own place, I'd want one. I don't think the wife would like it in our living room.

I really appreciate your touches and use of the pipe for speaker wire concealment. If I decide to add-on a separate room to the house for music listening only I would be all over it.

I love it! Thanks for the inspiration, I think I am going to build one. I have been having a hard time looking for something to fit my gear that doesn't cost a small fortune, I think this is going to be it.

Keith has the right idea about the meters.

localnet, 5 stars and two thumbs up for a very interesting concept and execution, plus downright clever. I being a former 25 year 18 wheeler am impressed. Would I buy it? No, as it wouldn't fit into our room decor. However I think a small number for folks would find it appealing in their home. It would need lots of flexibility which you already seem to be considering. Your sales info might give several photos of varying setups with the same basic equipment. You've got some very excellent and good bang for the buck gear there in your specific setup. You've got a ton of power and would most likely with dynamic music blow most of the dinning tableware into the kitchen! I like the symmetry of the layout. It is very clean with the connections hidden. Comments for your system and possible customers system: ..... Agree a larger TV might be good. Also should be a shade or drape to block out window light for daylight TV and movie viewing. Maybe there is one hidden? ..... Presume the subs could be moved out to the sides some if needed for improved low bass. Subs up off the floor and out from the wall like you them have are good. I would hope your Denon or the SB-3000 has some sub EQ capabilities to improve sub flatness if not being able to place/move the subs, if not already very good to your ears. Ignore those who bad-mouth any EQ. Music should be as flat/natural as it is intended in the recording. Rooms screw this up. High quality EQ-ing can be effectively corrective. ..... Might consider the left/right speaker stands in closer some, not so far apart for some closer spaced rooms. Entire system as you show it seems rather wide for some rooms. ..... Center and left/right speakers should be closer to the same height. Move the center speaker up under the screen. I about 75% of the time play stereo music thru Dolby Surround (etc.) as I feel it usually gives more natural ambient sound depending on the particular recording. Many will cringe at this suggestion. However most stereo music tends to be too unrealistic, even with my very good speakers with excellent horizontal dispersion. I have A/B compared many recordings and consistently find with 5.1 (or plus) surround a more natural sound. My Emo ERD-1's up high on the wall are superb for natural surround and IMO eliminate the need for over-hyped Atmos. ..... I think some might like what they see in your system, but for those that are handy some might just copy it and go DIY. Sorry, if I got carried away here and a little late. I went back and looked at your photos a number of times and really like what you've done. I'd love you hear your system if we were close just to hear your SVS/ERD-1 with all that Emo power when needed and especially those those SB-3000's! Thanks for an enjoyable thread. ChuckieNut PS: Sorry for the crazy line spacing, etc. I'm going to blow up this computer. Couldn't possibly be my fault!

Similar in form to what I've been planning. Fine job in your execution. I like it.

Localnet, you inspired me. I have been shopping around for months, trying to find speaker stands for my surround speakers that need to be behind the couch. I could not find anything to fit my needs. The closest stands I could find were $400 for the pair and they would have still needed some modifications. I took a cue from you and built my own. I ordered custom cut steel, had it welded then I drilled/tapped/painted the stands to hold my Definitive Technology AW-6500 outdoor speakers, for a total of $250. The stands weigh in at 25 pounds each, so they are very sturdy. Thank you for the idea, it worked out great, I got exactly what I wanted without having to 'settle' for something else. Steve

I like it. I would omit the valve handles, not being a huge fan of steampunk. Did you use solid core door slabs for the shelves?
