Just thought I would throw this out there, as I spent all day yesterday replacing cables along with covering each of them in a cat proof protective jacket.
I was getting some glitches in my system, so I took a peak behind my setup, this was last week... I about fell over, my cat chewed up multiple XLR cables along with my power cables. He hit everything that was NOT covered in some sort of PET or split loom jacket. The HDMI cables, a couple of power cables for the amps, speaker cable, main power cable in split loom, he did not go near those, but anything with a rubber jacket, he chewed just about all of them.
So, I ordered new Monoprice XLR cables and new Pangea AC-14 power cords. I spent all day yesterday pulling EVERY unprotected cable, one by one, and installing black automotive split loom to each of them. I used 1/8", 3/8" plastic split loom, like you would get up at NAPA. I buy this stuff in 100' rolls, truck driver, own the truck, use it regularly so I had plenty. The cat does not like that stuff, or the PET.
With the new power cords and XLR cables, not including my time, I think I am looking at around $250+. And know, I did not kill the cat, but the thought did cross my mind. ;-)
If you have pets, go look behind your gear, I about fell over at what I found, could have started a fire in the right conditions.

You’re absolutely right about pet proofing the wires. I once had a customer bring in a floor standing lamp to be rewired...and a cat was involved and WAS electrocuted. I had to ask “are you sure you want this done??” (Being an Animal lover) perhaps silly, but I couldn’t imagine having that lamp after what happened, but still they wanted it done. Bill

Bill I started looking around the house and found more cords chewed up, had to dig for them, but they were easy for the cat to get to. Scary thought.

I have all my stereo cables covered in the wire loom. Bonus is that I bought some in cream color so it helps the wires on the cream carpet blend in better.
